I am so tired of illegal immigrants whining. You accept certain conditions with your illegal status, one of them being savvy business people paying you shite wages and giving you crappy jobs. There is a simple fix if you are not entirely satisifed with your lot and that is to return home.

How about a deal where Britain gives up the 14 remaining occupied territories?

What do we get for this "deal"?

You can deport all the migrant vermin you no longer have use for.

I don't get it. You want us to send all the illegals to the "occupied" territories, then give them up,

thus exporting the problem to another country?

Don't be silly Col Bat. Some people don't owe any debt to their ancestors but even if they did, each generation has its own problems, you can't live in the past.

And I might add, "pay for the sins of others".

That's just the kind of Right Wing Fascist statement I'd expect from you.

Part of my ancestry is Native American. Another part is Irish and another English. The early Irish immigrants were often mistreated by the so-called nativists in their day. Some of them went on strike while the nativists wanted them deported. They came here to escape the potato famine...which was caused because of British colonialism. Imagine that. Know your history....it'll completely change your outlook on all immigration matters.

Steve I have "Irish" in me as well, but I would bet "The Irish" were a dysfunctional lot when they got here.

I find it hard to believe no one liked them simply because of their accent.

Do you think they were the most sober and hardest working immigrants to arrive (legally I might add)?

Problem is, we are so fixated on the Orthodoxy of believing

every fault found about any group is totally baseless when in fact there is in most instances "at least" a kernel of truth, often times more.

Why do you think people today are so much more willing to hire todays "underdogs" (Mexicans) and not the Irish back then?

Is it because we are a much better people now.... or because the Mexican shows up for work, sober... and on weekends ready to work? (which brings the employer profit)

I'm guessing, it took decades to meld the dysfunctions of the "old country" out of the Irish, and now we point to the modern day Irish and pretend... "this" is how they came off the boat to face baseless prejudice.

What the hell are you talking about? Dysfunctional? The Irish immigrants were dysfunctional and that's why they were mistreated? Where do you get such outlandish ideas, Danno? I'd seriously like to know - when was the last time you read a history book and what was the title of the book? Did you even take any history in college? You did college, yes?

He's talking about Irish people Bat, they were all drunken slobs who couldn't put in a proper days work until they have spent some time in the Great USA and become 'civilized'. How silly of you not to know. It's the BY school of thought, I am surprised Danno and BY don't get on like a house on fire to be honest.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Here's Danno's text book right here:

Wild speculation about fetal alcohol syndrome and Irish immigration
Compare this picture of a girl with fetal alcohol syndrome:

21723.jpg

to these anti-Irish cartoons by 19th century versions of A. Wyatt Mann:

shanty.jpg

irishdeclaration.jpgflorance.jpgBesides the fact that the Irish in these pictures are generally ugly, nasty, and brutish-looking (Anglos have received this treatment themselves), they do seem to have some of the features associated with FAS. Could it be that some of their problems had to do with a poor fetal environment?

If so, this illustrates a danger in comparing one group of immigrants to another.

A population may be short because it is malnourished, like the North Koreans, or it may be short because it's congenitally short, as is probably the case with pygmies. Feed young North Koreans properly and they'll look like South Koreans when they grow up. Feed pygmies properly, and most likely they'll grow up to look like pygmies. The same thing is probably going on with cognitive traits. So, just because people who came from crappy environments in 19th century Europe or 20th century Asia have done well in the US, it doesn't necessarily follow that everyone else will.

Of course, we don't need any wild speculation or airy theories to tell us that. Empirical data does it just fine.

Which 14 "occupied territories" might they be?

####### is this... What a world we live in.

1. Unlawfully enter another sovereign country

2. Then work under the table, dodging most taxes. Not to mention undercutting local wages.

3. Then demand rights

No one better give me the they're poor #######, considering the absolutely ridiculous birth rates in these countries they're migrating from.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Britty, that's scurelous nonesense. Most if not all of the migrants from former British colonies have always contributed to the UK society financially and for the most part did not come to the UK illegally. I can't imagine what possessed you to make such a stupid statement, aside from trying to get one over on Col. Bat.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only dumb animal here... Irish are a bunch of drunks? Is that like saying Mexicans are lazy and blacks are drug dealers and thugs? What a complete idiot!

I agree with the later comment; some formal education really does wonders to reduce ignorance. Direct correlation exists between stereotyping and low or inadequate education.

The worst county in the area spend $13K per student, while the county with the highest household income in the country spends $10K. Education has done squat for the first county.

Some people or cultures do not value civility and education as highly as others do. It's really not that hard to fathom or accept.

This is not the stone ages or the 19th century. A country with no industrialized base cannot be expected to accept limitless unskilled workers as they once did. Hence, the notion of legal immigration channels. Which might I add, absolutely nobody has an issue with. That thought that an individual for another nation can take it on themselves to decide where they live, is absurd by any measure.

All I see is Red herring rhetoric from some are trying to make it out as if those who do not condone illegal aliens are anti-immigration. Simply not true at all.
