Here's legislation Obama has signed thus far:

Legislation signed 2009

* January 29: Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act

* February 4: Children’s Health Insurance Reauthorization Act

* February 11: DTV Delay Act

* February 17: American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

* March 30: Omnibus Public Lands Management Act of 2009

* April 21: Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act

* May 20: Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act

* May 20: Helping Families Save Their Homes Act of 2009

* May 22: Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act of 2009

* June 22: Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act

For comparison purposes - here's W's record up to the end of Sept 2001:

Legislation signed 2001

* June 7: Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001

* September 18: Authorization for Use of Military Force

* September 28: United States-Jordan Free Trade Area Implementation Act

But then, Bush spent most of the first few months clearing brush in Crawford. Couldn't be bothered to actually run the executive...

Do you have a cite?

wiki

A real cite. Thomas shows over 200 bills introduced during that period of time were signed into law by Bush.

When were these 200 bills passed and signed?

He's got nothing useful done at all. What did you expect from a man who mustered up the courage to vote 'present' as often as he did.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Thomas (the Library of Congress) doesn't have that option in the search engine, unless you check each bill one at a time. Normally at the start of a session, hundreds of bills are introduced by the members. I just searched for public bills signed into law. Not every bill signing gets a pulbic ceremony, so I though maybe you had a better source.

I think this must just be a strange American phenomenon, or a strange VJ phenomenon - where people keep going back and comparing what the last president did, or didn't do with what the current president is or isn't doing.

What is the value in that? This ####### for tat stuff is kind of ridiculous.

First of all George W is not coming back to be president. This I know. So how does comparing what he did with what Obama is doing - mean anything?

The only conclusion that I can come to is that at some point the government of your country encouraged this to keep you all occupied spinning your wheels while they did, whatever it is that they do.

Time to focus on what is happening now.

It's a way of shifting focus I think, from the abysmal performance of the person in the oval office. Apologists are famous for it. They can't defend what's going on, so they point fingers backwards. A political you momma.

No, it's that from the day that Obama was sworn in, the Right Wingers have been trying to deleglitimize his presidency. He didn't really swear in, he's not really an American-born citizen, he's a Muslim, he's a Socialist, he's a Communist, he wants to take away your guns, he wants to indoctrinate your children, Michelle Obama spends too much money...the list goes on and on. Even for those who didn't vote for him or agree with his policies, at least there have been a few lone voices who have called this nonsense for what it is. It's divisive and it's not helping this country.

But let's not confuse legitimate criticism from the bullsh!t. Although this list of Obama's accomplishments is weak, it is a fair subject. But that's when past presidencies are relevant. For example, some Right Wingers have complained the Obama has increased the national debt exhorbitantly, but were silent when Bush undid Clinton's accomplishment of bringing down the debt and to this date, has added more to the national debt by any president since WWII. Selective criticism is what this topic is about.

You know you got serious problems when SNL starts making fun of you, hey Democrats remember what happened to Sara Palin last year on SNL? This is an ominous sign for Ovomit! Democrats are in big trouble come 2010 mid term elections.

http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/280038

SNL was more than happy to provide a checklist of President Obama's accomplishments - or lack thereof - under the backdrop of Chicago's 2016 Olympics loss.

The opening skit features a take on President Obama (played by Fred Armisen) sitting at his oval office desk and explaining the many things he has not done - all under the reassurance that he will not lead the country toward a socialist society. According to SNL, he simply cannot get it done.

For the Libertarians among us, "The government the governs best governs least." That should make Obama's Presidency the most successful, if the trend noted by SNL is sustainable. After all, we loved the "Do Nothing" Republican Congress under Clinton.

Yeah, well that's a pretty ambiguous idea to base a political ideology on. How much is too much? How much is not enough? Because, apparently when a Democrat is President, any government is too much, but when a Republican is in the White House, there's never enough. The facts and figures on that historical reality make that pretty clear.

Only because it seems that way, and the media puts it in your face. Things are still pretty mild by historical norms.

It's actually a pretty effective strategy. The Right Wingers know that if they continue throw enough bullsh!t at Obama, some of it will stick and they use the daily poll numbers to gauge the effectiveness of their attack. Their message is pretty straightforward - they want Americans to start doubting the legitimacy and therefore effectiveness of the President. It's way beyond simply disagreeing with his policies. It really is sad and pathetic and I've been hoping they'd eventually quiet down a bit and accept that the Democrats won the White House and are there for 4 years...but now I think they are hoping to make him into a lame duck president before the end of his first term, much like what happened to Clinton.

Well usually things seem one way because that's how they really are.

I'm sure the media is to blame for some of the hysteria, it usually is.

Not that VJ is a barometer of the country's politics, but I do think it is odd that so much time is devoted to each and every spurious headline that pops up.
