You will need to take your passport, green card and marriage certificate to your local social security office so you can update your status and your name.

Your application for change of name should verify because you have to put your maiden name on the SS5 form as well as your new name. Your marriage certificate is proof enough for them to change your name. Once you have a social security card with your new name on you can get pretty much anything with that name on....... bank accounts, driving license etc.

My mother-in-law is a manager with SSA so she explained all this to me. I also went through the process recently.

Anymore SSA questions I am happy to help.

Also, I ALWAYS carry a copy of my marriage license with me because my passport is in my maiden name. Just in case......

Yeah we've gotta get the SS Office soon too to remove my hubby's conditions. The problem is that the ones near us are only open 9-4pm weekdays and we both work 9-5pm :(

Is there any way to mail-in an application or does it have to be in person?

Yes, you can mail in your application. You will have to supply all your original documents and they will send them back to you. :-( I was worried about losing my marriage certificate so I went in person.. I went during my lunch hour and it ran over a bit so i just stayed late at work. Hopefully you will be able to work something out!

Well my hubby will only be removing conditions so do they still need our marriage certificate? I thought they just need to see his GC. Then again...I'm not sure we want to mail-in his GC so maybe we will go on a lunch hour too

They just need 2 forms of ID and one of them has to be the GC. I think they prefer GC and passport.
