The only person responsible are be the individual/s who actually did it.

There's no "group" responsibility.

Legal culpability, yes...but such sentiment doesn't happen in a vacuum.

Oh come on that's bollocks Steve.

That's not far removed from the arguments in the thread about the guy who killed his family, blaming organized religion for the crime.

(from WaPo)

It is a federal crime to attack a federal worker during or because of his federal job.

"It’s a tragedy. Our hearts and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this worker," Office of Personnel Management Director John Berry said Thursday morning. He has spoken frequently about the denigration of federal employees.

"I’m going to be closely following this law enforcement action. If this is an attack on a federal employee, I can assure you that no resources will be spared to find the perpetrators," Berry said. "We cannot tolerate essentially domestic terrorism, if that is what this is. But until we understand the law enforcement investigation, we don’t know."

Threats are more common than actual attacks on federal employees, Berry said. He noted that people regularly threaten federal judges and their families, IRS agents and federal law enforcement officers.

"It’s also a reality for many categories of federal workers so we take any threat of violence seriously," he said.

Sparkman was an Eagle scout who moved to southeast Kentucky to be a local director for the Boy Scouts of America, his mother told the AP. He later became a substitute teacher in Laurel County and earned extra money as a Census field worker.

At least he wasn't gunshot. Maybe we need to regulate the sale of rope. What we need is rope control. Better yet, the sale of rope should be banned completely. Then this tragedy could have been avoided. ;)

I agree. At the MINIMUM the sale of any rope with breaking strength or 80 lbs should require a background check, registration and some sort of government ID and internet sales should be banned. Mail order rope is most often used in these crimes

If that man were your friend, your father, or your son, would you pop off at the mouth with such ridiculous innnuendo?

Sure it is ludicrous. But no more innuendo than the assertion that there are organized armed posses or militias that are out to overthrow the government and that is evidence that private ownership of guns must be rigidly controlled and ultimately eliminated for the greater good of American society.

Of course it is a tragedy that anyone gets murdered for whatever reason or method, but it is even more tragic when a random innocent is used to make a political statement. However, without knowing all the facts, it is not possible to know the motives behind this guy's death or even if the fact that he was a census worker was really the true motive.

Me thinks this story was posted just for the "innuendo".

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

If this poor man was murdered by one of these anti-federalists who've been drummed into anti-government hysteria, will the people who advocate violence be assigned responsibility by their apologists?

Anti-federalists? He was killed some ghosts from the 18th century?

NickD is closer to the sentiment of the region which has been a stronghold of bootleggers and probably pot growers. They don't take kindly to strangers asking questions and there's not enough people there to fill a townhall anyway.

Mythbusters proved you can make a very strong rope out of toilet paper, let's ban that too.

Yeah but that was DRY toilet paper

Yeah because America leads the world on suspicious rope deaths ;)

And the wide availability of guns has ####### all to do with the large numbers of crimes (and deaths) involving firearms.

You are right. I agree. I withdraw my support of rope restrictions. They make as much sense as gun controls, just as you say.
