(CNN) — The San Ysidro Port of Entry on the U.S.-Mexico border in California was temporarily closed Tuesday after four people were wounded by gunfire that erupted from three vans packed with than 70 people headed from Mexico toward the border, officials said.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent and a Customs and Border Protection officer also fired their guns, said Angela Decima, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Border Patrol.

Three of the casualties were critically wounded, said San Diego, California, Fire Department Spokesman Maurice Luque. The fourth person wounded was in a separate vehicle, said Decima.

The condition of the fourth person was being assessed, and a fifth person — who may have fallen while running — was injured in an incident unrelated to the shootings, Luque said.

Four of the five people who were hurt were part of the entourage of cars involved in the shooting, he said. All of the occupants of the three vehicles were taken into custody, said Luque.

The border incident occurred at 3:25 p.m. (6:25 p.m. ET), police said.

The crossing point, officially declared a crime scene, will remain closed for several hours while the San Diego Police Department investigates.

If the border security are generous, they could even shout it in Spanish, although how that might help a poor Eastern European trying it, I don't know.

Seriously, when the government ENDS the economic incentive to come here illegally and the economic incentive to smuggle people here illegally, this stuff will stop. But the proposals (amnesty!!!!) are nothing more than freeing slaves but not ending slavery. When we make it horribly expensive for business to employ illegal aliens by imposing bankruptcy causing taxes for employing them and seizing the property of employers that employ them to pay the tax...the slaves will be freed, they can all walk home and will no longer be oppressed, herded, smuggled and SHOT.

The current proposals are simply a way to look good (free the current slaves) and encourage more to take their place. It is revolting that both political parties continue to oppress an entire population and the economic situation of several countries for their own selfish political expediencies, and it is revolting that Americans watch a race of people being enslaved.
