I have my AOS interview in a month, as we just got letter today. I've been in the US on my k3 for just 3 months and didnt expect to have interview so quick. My EAD has not been approved and so I cant get an SSN. Without my SSN I can't have a joint bank account or credit card with my husband...and I would think that this would be a vital piece of info to have when you go to the AOS interview.

Any suggestions?

Go to your local SS office and get your SS# you are infact intitled to an SS#. I came on a K1 and received my SS# approximately 7 weeks after I arrived, PM me if you like and I will tell you which SS office I went into. I did not have any trouble with Washington Mutual Bank, my husband and I swapped banks (he was with US Bank) and we now have a joint account with Washington Mutual. Yes I have a credit card and Yes my name is on the account again if you would like to know more just PM me :D

You do need EAD for SSN if you are on K3. Bank Of America added my wife's name to my accounts and both utility companies added her to the bills without SSN. My employer added her to my health insurance without SSN as well. Also I have had additional credit card for my wife in my account since just after we were married - without a SSN.

Have you talked to the bank, utility companies and the credit card comapny?

Good luck.

Yeah.. im aware about the k3 vs the k1ers who can get their ssn's right away. my husband is with becu and he just switched to it not too long ago too. We talked to them and its a no go without the SSN. The bank and credit card companies are the only things I can't get added to without the SSN. I am on the health insurance and everything else. Just no financial info together as of yet. I guess I'm going to have to depend on a miracle to get EAD soon and head down to SSA office to apply for SSN.

Thanks for the suggestions.
