Look, we either give credit or assign Federal fiscal responsibility to presidents or we don't.

We don't. Until a President has the support of congress and uses that support to be responsible its impossible to give him credit.

You can blame Reagan if you want, but he didn't have the full congress he wanted so obviously in order to get his tax cuts and military spending passed, he had to agree to Democrats wishes.

You can give credit to Clinton if you want, but he didn't have the congress he wanted either, so how do we know what he would have done if his cast of 1993 remained until 2000?

You can blame Bush all you want for his deficits.

Didn't we basically have the same tax code in Clinton's term that was created under Reagan? So how can you claim Reagan's policies failed? It almost eventually resulted in a reduction of the national debt with relatively low taxes.

Sorry, Dale - but historically, the credit or blame has traditionally fallen onto the sitting President and his administration. It's why the Right Wingers are all up in arms over "Obama adding to the Deficit." Granted, a president can't do it alone, but traditionally, they are point man that takes the credit or gets blamed.

I'll give you that. He has the power to veto bad things, but you gave me a choice and I choose to stop even thinking about the past because the future is very, very disturbing. You are right to say a lot of the GOP is suddenly getting conservative now that the President is Democrat. I stipulate that. But this feels like one brother making excuses based on the other brother "he did it, so I get to do it- and I should get to do it twice as bad".

Its whacko.

I don't see it as that...but rather a response to what is obvious selective outrage. Why wasn't the Deficit a concern for the Right when Bush got us into Iraq and Iran? I believe I know why. Because our economy was moving right along. It wasn't until the Recession came about (which many were in denial about until we were knee deep in it), that suddenly the Right started to worry about spending.

Facts are ####### to you, Charles? Wow.

This diagram has all the facts you need.

wapoobamabudget1.jpg

Obama's deficits are WORSE than ANY President's - Republican or Democrat - in American history.

The national debt has NEVER been higher than 100% of GDP in American history, not even at the end of World War II.

It is projected to balloon to over 150% of GDP in the next ten years. A $19 trillion national debt in 2019 would be

the equivalent of more than $60,000 of debt for every man, woman and child in the United States.

These are the facts.

That's cherry picking the facts and you know it. He inherited this Recession. Look at the Bush Administration's rosey projections and see how far off they were.

Did FDR make excuses when he inherited the Great Depression?

He didn't spend more than our GDP either.

The fact is, with all the wars and profligate spending, Bush's deficits don't even come close to this madness.

Obama competed to inherit the debts and deficits. He asked for them, and claimed he could fix them. Last I heard, he was still president. Big problems come with the job. So, who gives a flying ** that he whines and cries about them? I sure don't. If he prefers to make excuses rather than keep his promise to FIX things, and just makes them worse, he gets no pass from me.
