I arrived in Manila on the 13th of last month where Merlaine met me. We stayed the night and met her brothers who live there and flew on to Tacloban the next morning. Turns out I didn't need as much advise as I thought I did :D Things could not have been better since I got here and tomorrow, September 10th, will be our wedding in Palo, Leyte!! We're both very excited and have spent the past month running down all the necessary paper work. I'll post up more info on what was required here and what we've gone through to get to this point after I get home on the 15th.

Thanks so much to all the VJ family for the great advise and help!!

Kevin and Merlaine

is it your first time to see her personally and then get married tomorrow?

Yeah, first meeting in person. I knew she was the one before I ever got here though :D

wow that was so fast from first meeting online and then getting married...i hope you go to the real process of getting married there in pi so you wont have problems in the interview...

and about the nso marriage certificate...its not 2+ months...after the civil registrar send your marrige certificate thru electronic endorsement to nso...you can have nso copy of your marriage license in just 15 working days.

well, i married my husband on his first visit in Manila but we were dating online for more than a year. About MC, it took us 4 months for the authenticated copy from NSO that's why he submitted the certified true copy from civil registry office when he filed I-130.

First of all thank you all so much for the well wishes! The archdiocese in the Philippines required that I be baptized a Catholic IN THE USA and that I have a recent baptismal record with me. We would have been required to attend a seminar for 3 consecutive Sundays and then banns would have to be posted for an additional 3 Sundays. So basically if you're a Catholic, be sure to bring a recent record with you and if you're not, don't count on a church wedding :(

We were actually married by a judge that lives in Tacloban, Judge Reymundo Lopez :) It was a riot too because neither Merlaine or I could understand one word the man said!! LOL So we pretty much just mumbled like he did LOL.

Don’t forget the 10 day waiting time before you sign the papers to be officially married! Both of you will need to sign.

Yes, from the date you submit the application for marriage it's supposed to be 10 calendar days. The rotten woman at the registrars office that we had to deal with insisted that it was 10 working days, so on the 12th day we went to follow up and make sure she'd release it on time. She then informed us that she was "mistaken" and we could get it that day - after we waited in her office for 2 hours of course. All together that one woman cost us nearly 2 weeks in delays. She also made ME go get a CENOMAR. The people at the NSO office said she was mean and nuts so it didn't surprise them. I'm hoping to get a plaque on the wall there recognizing me as the only US citizen every required by another government official to obtain a document required for PI citizens..LOL

Would you mind telling me the requirements for the church wedding there in PI for a foreign husband?

We are planning to have a wedding there by 2011 and they were saying that since hubby is non-Catholic, he needs to be baptized.

I dunno if it's true but might as well hear from you.

Congrats and best wishes!

Your husband doesn't need to be baptized in a catholic church as long as he was baptized before regardless of what religion it was. The catholic church recognize one baptism (according to the Nicene Creed). That's what happened with my husband he didn't go through with the baptism but the confirmation.
