Not sure where to post this, thought I might try it here as well...

Hubby just got a prospective job in another town, 1.5 hrs drive from where we live right now and we haven't found any good places to live. At first we wanted to find an apartment, but sounded like most of them want a 12-month lease while we actually want to buy a house within the first 6 months. Therefore we are thinking about sharing house or condo or whatever with someone that will be willing to accept month-to-month rent.

I want to know if any of you guys have experience on this ? I need to know what needs to be done, what the regular procedures are (e.g. do they require background/credit check and do we need to do the same with them, etc), what we need to be aware of or stay away from, etc.

I'd say use Craigslist but if you are not moving to the TC area or other metro area it's probably of little use. I've taken a room temporarily in someone else's house before and that was the method I used (looking for an ad on Craigslist). Where are you moving?

I have no problem wih this. Use common sense. With a month-to-month lease you can leave with minimum difficulty.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

We are moving to Minneapolis/St Paul area. We don't really want to deal with the hassle of having to sublet the apartment, I mean, buying house is stressful enough (at least for me... :P ). Sometimes it can be difficult to find a tenant that meets the landlord's qualifications, so we really want to stay away from it.

So basically there won't be any background/credit check involved with roomies ? Any special tricks that we need to know ?

Well, why don't you guys become the subletters? Seriously, there are many good sites to check it out. That way you don't need to share anything--just take care of someone else's apartment. This, to me, would be the solution. Just don't have any roommates.

And if you need any info on moving to the TC area (although I'm sure you must know people here) don't hesitate to post :)

Or you can look for a large apartemnt complex, they usually allow for multiple lease options, month-to-month, 6 months, a year... and they are all priced accordingly (month to month is the most expensive)
