How critical is it to send Applicant's Statement with the Packet 3? When I emailed US Consulate, Mumbai (mumbaiiv@state.gov), their reply suggested that I only need to submit DS230 Part 1, DS-156 and DS2001.

Thanks

With packet 3, I think the usual is to send BOTH the 'DS-230 and Applicants Statement'. What I would do if i were in your place is to go ahead and send them the Applicants Statement as well as ALL other documents they request. It wouldn't hurt to send the Applicant Statement whether they requested it or not.

Good luck to you.

Also, how are you sending them? Through the VFS? Or mail? If you're sending them by mail, I would send it through a courior service that offers tracking for your peace of mind.

Ok, so she forgot to send it in the first place. Have her mail it ASAP and it should be in their hands in a few days (working days). Then email (or call) the embassy and ask them to confirm they've received it. Even if you have to do it every day. Send it with tracking if you can. My fiance used ARAMEX to mail his, which offers tracking.

The funny thing is my wife never received the packet 3. I called the embassy and they told the packet 3 was mailed on Aug. 17th. So I went online and told her what she needs to mail. I think she hired an agent to fill out the forms. She told me that the agent mailed it out. but I am not sure where is mailed it. I wanted to know the correct address before I talk to my wife.

Well, it is the same for me and my fiance. We were told the Packet 3 was mailed to him on the 10th of August, but never recieved it to this day. After I emailed them about it, they replied long with an email attachment of the DS-230, Applicants Statement and the packet 3 'cover' letter only...nothing else. No list or nothing. I don't think its some coincidence either that your wife nor my fiance from two separate US Ebassy branches didn't receive their packet 3.

Anyway try to see if you can find the info on their website. You can also find someone here at VJ that is going through the same branch as your wife and get the address from them.

There is a huge difference between us going through this last year than this year. Last year at least, they were prompt in sending the packets and even in responding to email inquiries. If they want us to download them (the packets 3 and 4) from their website, then why don't they just say so instead of saying they mailed them when its obvious to me that they didn't?

Try to stay ahead of them by researching here and learning from others experiences, plus download any needed documents from the website from packet 3 and 4, get the local police background done and her local Passport offices PCC done. You know India...don't wait until you are told to do it. It has taken weeks (6 so far) and my fiance still hasn't got his passport back et. the local doesn't take as long. So get started if you haven't already.

I read lots of forums and reviews. We are not the only one who didn't receive the Packet 3. It seems like US Consulate, Mumbai forgets to mail them all the time. My wife already started working on the getting the police certificate. Hopefully, it will be there in a week or so. Thanks for your input.
