What is "The continous residence" requirement for filing for US citizenship.

Basically you need to have lived in the US as a permanent resident married to the same US citizen for 3 years with no absences greater than 6 months at a time, and at least 18 months total residence in the US, with residence for the 3 months prior in the State from which you are applying. Absences of greater than 6 months at a time interrupts the 3 years of continuous residence so you restart the clock on 3 years of continuous residence from when you returned after the trip lasting longer than 6 moths.

You subtract it from total presence, but not from continuous residence.
