Cheney Statement on CIA Documents/Investigation

Former Vice President ####### Cheney gave The Weekly Standard a statement Monday night about the CIA documents and the coming Justice Department investigation.

The documents released Monday clearly demonstrate that the individuals subjected to Enhanced Interrogation Techniques provided the bulk of intelligence we gained about al Qaeda. This intelligence saved lives and prevented terrorist attacks. These detainees also, according to the documents, played a role in nearly every capture of al Qaeda members and associates since 2002. The activities of the CIA in carrying out the policies of the Bush Administration were directly responsible for defeating all efforts by al Qaeda to launch further mass casualty attacks against the United States. The people involved deserve our gratitude. They do not deserve to be the targets of political investigations or prosecutions. President Obama’s decision to allow the Justice Department to investigate and possibly prosecute CIA personnel, and his decision to remove authority for interrogation from the CIA to the White House, serves as a reminder, if any were needed, of why so many Americans have doubts about this Administration’s ability to be responsible for our nation’s security.

WPR had a guest speaker yesterday with quite opposite views, we are to be an example to the rest of the world and have a constitution to abide to. We have broken not only our laws, but international laws as well. Still the ongoing debate as too whether we are making more enemies than friends to increase the threat of terrorism.

How are you or me to know the truth in this matter? What is wrong with having an investigation? If all goes well for Bush and Cheney, that will be water under the bridge and these two guys will be heros. So what is wrong with having an investigation? It would put this subject to rest. That is the key question, whether to have this investigation or not.

USCIS certainly investigated us to make sure we weren't bringing in people illegally, didn't like it, but fully cooperated, worked out nice, they let me bring my wife here, I had nothing to hide.

Dude, this is political hackery.

Do you actually think I am worried about Bush or Cheney, I promise you they will not be touched by this investigation.

What will happen is: loss of confidence by those in these agencies (Thats already happened).

We are daily disclosing more and more information about our tactics, limits and methods.

The small-fries are the ones who will be hurt not Bush.

Swift move Obama.

And some wonder why the reputation of the left is that they confuse a real enemy from their own people.

There must be a list or website documenting all these Citizens who were violated.

If you are serious about this (and its more than just a few crazy cases) direct me too it.

The only thing I am aware of is how they linked all the DMV's together.

That cost me like 900.00 to renew my license... had to pay of ####### from NJ which was like 18 years old.

If the rank & file CIA members thought they were following what the military would call "lawful orders" then they should be exonerated from any sort of punishment. However if high level officials and/or politicians knowingly circumvented the law then they should face prosecution (I'm not a fan of Machiavellian tactics).

I think this is a pointless exercise unless you're going to go the whole hog and hold the politicians to account who presided over the policy.

and we all know that is not going to happen....more white house chest beating & wasteful spending.

Well even if there was the will it wouldn't happen, what with them being immune to prosecution and all.

Even Nixon escaped criminal charges didn't he?

Whether you agree or disagree with what was done, Cheney was behind the whole thing. I have a better chance of being attacked by a shark in a swimming pool than Cheney being held accountable. At best one of his lackey's will take the hit & even that is unlikely.
