Good Evening

We received the I-797 extension letter (NOA1). My spouse DL expires Oct 26, 2009; can we go now DMV to get the DL extended. My hubby travels out the state about 80% of the time with job so I would like this get done sooner than later. Also does the I-797 extension letter (NOA1) extend a year from the date on the NOA letter or a year from the expiration date on the GC. FYI I live in Atlanta, GA so it would be wonderful if there is a VJ from GA that could share his/her experience with GA DMV.

Thanks so much for you help!!

Jenice

That's a good question - I'd like to think it (the extension letter/notice) does show proof of status.

Do you (in Ga) have to go in to renew the license? (Some states allow you to do so via the internet...just curious)

Yes I did mine yesterday at the Marietta, GA office.

They just need to see your NOA, green card, and current license.

My license was due at the end of August.... but I think you can renew 90 days in advance.

It costs $20... you just fill in one form and it's very simple.... I'm now good to go for another year !! :)

Yes, I live in GA, too. You will have to go to your nearest Department of Driver Services (DDS) center to get it. You can find more information here Georgia dds . Once approved you will be issued a temporary paper license then the license will be mailed to your home within 2-3 weeks. Please also read about the requirements if you are a new resident to GA, they will want you also to go with proof of address e.g a utility bill which has your name on it. Better to be prepared with all the documents and also take your expired conditional Green card with you.
