Hi All,

I am excited to say that my wife and I have begun our "Visa Journey" and this forum has been a great help to us so far and I'm sure that will continue in the months to come. :D

Just received our NOA1 yesterday  and our excitement levels are off the charts making the process seem incredibly slow.

Looking forward to posting some more as our application progresses.

Thanks everyone!

Congrats FF! My journey will hopefully begin tomorrow! We'll be very close in our timelines!

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

Hey FF, were you nervous sending it out? I'm fedexing mine tomorrow, and I'm sooo nervous! I think I'm just afraid I'm going to make a mistake. I'm having two coworkers going thru my 130 and 325A forms tomorrow. I have exhibits, binders, etc...to throw in. It'll be a big box!

Our timeline:

Good luck! If I may offer one piece of advice... I recommend that you start getting stuff ready for the NVC part of the process right now. For example, make sure you have the beneficiary's long-form birth certificate, the petitioner's tax transcripts, etc. It's a way to pass the time and feel like you're being productive. You can also look carefully at the DS-230 and I-864 forms, and even practice filling them out. If you have everything ready to go by the time your petition is approved, you'll be able to get through the NVC part of the process in no time!

Great advice Holliday! My husband is ordering his birth certificate tomorrow, and in a couple of months we may start getting the police certs, and he's figuring out all his residences since age 16! I guess I better get working on the tax transcripts...(I'm sending in the I-130 etc.. tomorrow)

Good luck to you too! :) The tax transcripts are easy to get, luckily. I think my husband received his in the mail in less than a week. Not to hijack the OP's thread, but I just noticed your post about being nervous about submitting everything. Do you think it might ease your mind a bit if you posted the list of things you intend to send in your package?

I was definitely nervous FL! I've read many threads here about folks having to deal with RFE's etc and dread going through the same thing. I reviewed the packaged countless times and got some friends to look it over as well. Crossing my fingers :)

Holliday, that's a great suggestion and will definitely help pass the time until the NVC process begins.

MINE TOO......

It began early this month..

Looking at various timelines, it seems to be unpredictable. For some applicants the entire process is taking less than 4 months but for some it seems to be taking well over 6 months.

Timeline for getting I130 approved is the unpredictable part. For some it is taking 20 days and some 3 months. THe remains DS process completes within 2 -3 months whcih is pretty consistent for most of applicants.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I sent mine in on August 5th!

Congrats to us all for getting the first part done! I was so nervous sending it in and waiting for it to arrive and the check just cleared my back account today. Talk about nervous!

I started getting all my paperwork together while I was waiting for things for the I-130 application... so now I just feel like I'm waiting and waiting and waiting some more.
