Hello there,

as i asked how long it usually takes to get our first notice of action for AOS? We just got married and my i-94 expires on 24th of august. we're going to file for AOS on 21st of august. until our papers get there and they open it will i'll be out of status? that means i can't apply for the COLLEGE? if i'm out of status? or what kind of proof i can provide to the admissions of the college to confirm that i just applied for adjustment of status and i'm awaiting my NOA1?

thanks a lot :)

Are you expecting instant replies?? No even 20 minutes between your 2 posts...

To answer your question - the average is around 1 to 2 weeks.

If you're going to expect immediate answers, then be pushy about not getting them, and then be rude when you DO get an answer, then no one is going to answer your questions. You have to give people time. This isn't a chat room.

Kinito2k3 is right, will take about 1-2 weeks for NOA1. As far as what your college will accept as proof that would probably be a question for your college admissions office.

BTW, did you know that in your profile flag and your timeline do not have the same country listed?

Bonur_Mimi,

Sometimes you get answers quickly and sometimes it takes a while before someone sees your post and responds. If someone is rude to you being rude back to them isn't the answer. It is best not to respond to them and just send a report to the moderators so we can take care of it for you.

To answer your question: If you file for the AOS before your I-94 expires you will not be out of status. Once USCIS receives your AOS application your status changes to "AOS applicant". You should receive a receipt acknowledging your AOS application in about 1 to 2 weeks but sometimes it can take up to a month. Be sure to send the AOS package with some type of tracking information so you know exactly when it arrives at USCIS. Until you get your receipt, however, you won't have any way to show to anyone that you have applied for AOS.

You should contact the colleges you are looking at and ask them what type of proof they accept. They may require you to already have your green card and won't accept an application for a green card as proof of your status. Different colleges have different requirements so we are not able to tell you definitely yes or no.

Good luck to you with your application. You will find this can be a long and trying process so try to be patient - it will make things easier on you. :)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
