The libs are just mad we learned from them. Sucks when the shoe is on the other foot.

Nobody needs to be apologizing for extremists behaving like thugs from either side of the political spectrum.

Tell that to Barry. He says to "get up in your neighbor's face and change their mind!" He promotes in your face confrontation, bringing a gun to a knife fight. You didn't get the memo, Stevie?

Keep stretching the truth as if it were taffy.

Not taffy regrettably. I've heard the sound clip. Right up there with dob in your neighbour if you see or hear anything 'fishy' And turning up to Town Halls to get your point across and get your questions now means you are Un American.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

You're hopelessly partisan, Gary.

Ironic considering your signature.

You're assuming my views based on a comic book image that's a parody of a certain 1930s pulp fiction character.

I'm judging you based on things you yourself have said. The constant ####### for tat is so childish.

Ah, so it has no political insinuations then. OK, got it.

That's not what I said, Gary. I'm not claiming to be apolitical - but to take a serious point from a cartoon and make sweeping inferences about what my posting it means is stretching the truth ever so much.

I'm saying *you* are partisan because your whole Raison d'être on these boards is to justify things that you yourself wouldn't accept in reversed circumstances for the sole reason that the other guy did it first.

Racist and condescending at the same time. Good job Steven!

Really? So political dissent is back to being un-American again? Nice to know. I wish I could keep these rules straight.

And where does using the same tactics that the opposition has used for decades make me partisan?

I love how the Right Wingers become apologists for the thuggery by their extremists by trying to say it is justified because "Obama endorses such tactics." My God, the level of lunacy by the Right Wingers is astounding. They just can't calm down and let Obama be President. They will resort to anything ("all means necessary") to have him fail. Pathetic and sad...really.

And turning up to Town Halls to get your point across and get your questions now means you are Un American.

Going to town hall meetings to share one's opinion - and let other's share theirs - and get one's questions and concerns addressed is very American. Nobody suggests otherwise. However, shouting down the elected representatives in town hall meetings is not exactly a good way to get your point across and it is most certainly an ill approach if one is looking to get one's questions and concerns addressed. Both is usually best accomplished in a civilized manner - and there isn't much civility going around with the nay-sayer crowd in said town hall meetings. Which leads me to believe that their appearance at these events isn't about sharing their opinion or addressing their concers.

Seeing that these folks are quite disrespectful in terms of others at those meetings wanting to share their opinion and have their questions answered, I'd say this type of behavior is quite un-American. In the spirit of this great nation, free speech and freedom of expression goes both ways and doesn't belong to those that shout the loudest.

Erm... how does it not, Gary.

Noone seems interested in having an actual dialog just engaging adversarial mudslinging - "the far left" this and "the far right that". As political systems go - this is utterly fvcked.

I used to think UK politics was bad, but this is ridiculous. Otherwise reasonable people turn into the fvcking Hulk not over specific issues of policy but of philosophy.

Middle ground? What's that!?

Don't jump on the back of my point - you're as bad.

Its this constant process of dismissing and mischaracterising people - that we end up with this immature public theatre.

Has the US always been like this - that one side or other wins elections by a clear majority and spends the whole time in office steamrollering policies while the opposition try to defeat them by "any means necessary"?

Jesus Christ - how does anything actually get done!?

It does seem as though freedom of speech is reduced down to he who shouts not just loudest, but with the most partisan vitriol. Quaint it is not.

I've only lived here for the last 5 years, but what's happening now is almost an exact repeat of what happened when Bush was in office - this "we won, ** you" attitude that pervades everything.

Perhaps secession wouldn't be such a bad idea for some of these states - these people are planets apart.
