Have any girls run into this here--where the 3rd shot of your MMR will preclude you from getting pregnant?

Is it mandatory, is there a way with not having to deal with the Rubella shot?

What do you mean by the "3rd shot"? The MMR is a single shot.

Getting the shot doesn't mean that you won't get pregnant, but that the vaccine can be dangerous to a fetus. Most doctors along with the CDC recommend waiting 4 weeks after the shot before getting pregnant.

No, they told us that MMR gets administered in 3 sessions, the last being Rubella, and from that point you need to wait 6 months before getting pregnant. This was coming from a Packet-3 listed Doctor from the embassy.

Here in the U.S., the MMR is usually administered as a single shot, and like I said, you should wait 4 weeks before getting pregnant. If it's done differently where you are, then I guess there's no choice. Maybe you could see if a different doctor administers the combined shot.

If you're doing a K1, the vaccinations are not necessary until adjustment of status in the U.S., so you could get them done after arrival. I'm not sure if this would help the timeline with pregnancy, however.

That's very interesting that they are calling it MMR and then telling you its administered in 3 seperate doses. I'd be a bit leary of the clinic you are going through. I've never heard of MMR causing an inability to get pregnant, I got one 3 weeks ago (my second shot in Canada they make you get it once as a child and once as an adult) and the nurse didn't mention anything about not being able to conceive for 6 months, but then I didn't ask either.

The gardasil comes in 3 shots I wonder if your fiancee didn't get confused about what vaccine was give over what period of time or something. I don't know but best of luck to both of you!!

I got MMR vaccine in one shot and was told to wait three months before getting pregnant. The vaccine does not prevent pregnancy but can cause deformities in the baby, that's why you are supposed to wait. Is this really a big problem for you, why not wait a little before trying to concive?

Those are live attenuated viruses. Rubella is VERY dangerous to a fetus, so you don't want to get pregnant until your body has fought off the mini-infection and developed antibodies. Usually it is given in one shot, they don't break each vaccine into a separate shot.

Actually it's 1 shot for those of us who were immunized as children. If you're an adult who has never been immunized or has no proof of immunization (or lack of antibodies; verified by titer) then it's 2 doses.

The CDC recommends waiting at least 4 weeks before conception. Some doctors are more conservative and will recommend waiting even longer.

You're actually worse off if you don't have the vaccine, conceive a child and THEN get measles mumps or rubella (or chicken pox too, but unrelated to mmr) while pregnant. Adult cases of these diseases is much more severe than when children get them. Plus as already stated these diseases can cause serious birth defects if the mother contracts them during pregnancy (or is pregnant too soon after being immunized).
