Adding AOS spouse to car insurance

Hi guys! :)

Curious about this... I've been with my current car insurance company since 2003 so I'm listed as single and they just renew my policies no matter what until I change it. So, I am curious about adding spouse to my policy... do you guys add them to your car insurance before they get a social? Or should I wait till my husband gets his EAD and a social security number?

He does drive my car... most of the time when I'm in it, but sometimes without me. My lawyer told me he can drive with his home country driver's license and then we carry proof of his AOS in the car in case he gets stopped.

But I'm worried about insurance coverage if there was an accident or something... I was getting a price quote on progressive.com today and it asked my marital status.. I said married of course but it wouldn't let me list my spouse without a social security number.

So, I was just curious what you guys had experienced with this.

Thanks!

I added mine as a non driver until he got his licesne and then added him to the policy as a driver. Helps to show co mingling of things for the ROC portion :D

I would be careful as far as heaven forbid he get into an accident in your car

Better to ask this question to either your current insurance carrier or a differnt one, have to protect oneself

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

I have Progressive also. I couldn't list myself as married without listing my husband, which meant needing his SS# and DL#, which at the time he didn't have. So I waited until he had both. I didn't even ask about adding him without those things, it wasn't really necessary for us at the time.

We now have 2 cars on one policy, one registered to him and one to me. Our insurance together, for 2 cars, is less than it was for me alone with one car.

Not complaining about that though. :D
