For my NOA2, I can't help but wonder how nice it would be to have a job where it was acceptable to have a 6 month turn around on requests. But I digress. I'm not bitter. ;)

What I do have for you guys today though is a couple questions. I've read through more pages and wikis and forums, and guides than I care to recount for one day. So, straight to the horse's mouth I go.

My fiance is planning a visit to see me in August. She'll be here 10 days and returning home to sit out this process like I am. She lives in Sask, Canada and I'm in Pennsylvania. I've read several places that say it's a good idea for her to have proof of ties to Canada to aid in her being allowed to visit. I'm just looking for ideas as to what those things might be? A signed letter from her employer? Thanks!

Part 2 of my query for today: For someone residing in Regina, SK, where would they attend their interview? Or, what options would they have. I have recieved 5 different answers from 5 different people. So I thought I'd check with you cats. Thanks in advance!

A letter from her employer couldn't hurt, but also things like utility bills in her name, rent bills, things like that, that show her name on them.

My fiance is coming from Italy to visit me for the month of August. He's bringing a letter from his employer stating that he's expected back at work on September 1st, a copy of his rental agreement for his apartment, he'll also have his return ticket, plus a copy of our entire I-129F packet and a copy of the NOA1 receipt of payment for the K1 visa petition. The first two docs are to show ties to his country and his intent to return; the return ticket is to show he has a reservation to leave and go home; the copy of the visa-related docs are to show that we're going through the correct channels and have actually shelled out $$ to do so.

I should be picking him up at the airport at 7 PM on Saturday the 1st. I am hoping beyond hope that there are no problems with him getting through customs in NY!

Awesome! I hope everything goes A-OK for you!

In thinking about this, I might have a heart attack if she got turned away. I do think that would just crush my morale.

She's having her mother drive here to North Dakota, then catching a flight here. Two fold reason there. First, it's 300 bucks cheaper. Secondly, if there is an issue, she can just go home with mama. And she's not stranded alone in some place with no one.

As long as she is truthful and can show strong ties to Canada, there is no reason why should would be denied for a 10 day trip. Strong ties include a lease or mortagage, utility bills in her name, bank statement in Canadian funds, even a doctor's apt. card (showing she has every intention of continuing her life in Canada). Plus an NOA-1 and 2 would be beneficial as well.

Good luck,

Hi Scott! Welcome to VJ! I'm from Saskatchewan myself, and moved to St. Louis Missouri a few years ago. I digress...

Her best proof of ties is yes, a letter from her employer. On company letterhead is the best. Saying when she's expected back to work, perhaps her position there, a number that the border officials could call if need be to verify. Her return ticket of course, an apartment lease? A bank statement? I'm sure with a letter from her employer, she should have no problems.

Her interview will be in Vancouver. Once you get your NOA2, she'll receive a package from Vancouver called "package 3" which will outline things she'll need to do, and start to get ready for her interview. She'll only have to begin that process like booking a medical appointment etc., not conclude it before she'll fax information back to Vancouver and they'll assign her an interview date. She'll even have an opportunity to pick some preferred dates for an interview. ASAP is probably what she will want.

If she doesn't have a criminal record, she could go to the RCMP and get a CPIC done now. Hmm, she could get her vaccinations up to date as well. I don't know how old she is, she may have to get the Gardisal shot as well. The medical has to be done by a panel physician that USCIS designates. She'll maybe have to have that done in Vancouver prior or after the interview. The medical exam, and vaccinations won't be covered by her health plan either. It's cash up front.

Have you been over to the Canada Forum? Here's the link: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showforum=93

Also a link to Canada VJ Wiki:

On the Wiki page it has lots of information as to visiting the US while a K-1 is being processed. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=191858

Best of luck!

Wow! All sorts of good information here. :D

Thank you all so much. And it's awesome to talk to someone who's come from the same place. This has been most excellent. :)
