I would like to get an I-551 stamp in my passport as a proof of status.

The reason is, I did not receive the GC and I did not receive the replacement GC for which I filed almost a year ago. So my proof of status is just an I-90 form in addition to the first I-551 given upon entrance to the US.

My local office insists that they only give 60 days validity I-551, and I am hoping that another office may be a bit more generous.

Did anyone try scheduling and going to an Infopass elsewhere, not where they reside?

:help:

i dont think it matter which office u go to

u can go any office but i dont think it will change the time of ur visa

that is my opinion and it does not hurt to try if u r hear the other office

Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

I agrre with abby n sheryl, it would not hurt to try infopass again to the next closest office. You could also try calling USCIS.

Good luck

I am not talking about duration of my visa, or even duration of my status.

I want to have a proof of my status. I have conditional LPR status, but not the proof of it for travel and work purposes, as I do not have a physical GC (because at this point USCIS lost it twice).

My local office refuses to give me proof valid for longer than 60 days.

Officer, couldn't you possibly give me 90 days? NO. Come back in 60 days if you want the stamp again.

I know that other offices have done it.

Anyone with experience of going to the local office, which is not "theirs" by place of residence????

Is this the Chicago office? They're notorious for that. I suggest involving a congressman and also researching on their obligation to give you a one-year stamp - 60-days when every other office gives 1-year is stupid to say the least.
