Hello,

My fiancee' is in the Philippines and we filed for her K-1 Visa and just received NOA1 07/14/09. She lives in Tacloban and the interview and medical exam will be in Manila. She will need to fly from Tacloban to Manila and back twice and stay in hotel's etc. to complete the K-1 process. I currently send her cash through moneygram.com but I would like to get her a prepaid credit card so she can go online and book flights, pay for hotel rooms, etc. I would like for her to have a prepaid credit card that originates from the Philippines so there are no issues where when she uses the card, it is a US based card and beleive there is a security issue because the charge is taking place outside the US. I would also like to "load" the card from the US for her use. I have investigated the Moneygram prepaid credit card and they do not allow what I am trying to accomplish. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can accomplish this.

Thanks!

If you can,

put your fiancee as a joint owner of a credit card account you already have and send her a card with her name on it.

or you can simply open another bank account in both of you names (which looks very good for proof of ongoing relationship) and keep the amount of money she needs in it all all times. That way you no longer need to go through the hassle of wiring money, and she has the money whenever she needs it. We have been doing this method for a year now and it works out well.

I opened a seperate bank account (and I didn't put her name on it basically because it is very hard to do). I then fedexed her the debit card and she could withdraw from an ATM whenever she needed it.

The costs were cheaper than moneygram or western union or for that matter XOOM.

Good Luck

She wont have a problem with a US issued credit card if you notify the credit card company that she will be using it in the Philippines.

:thumbs: that's true..we did it and no problem...

We also did this and one day the card got stuck in the ATM machine and the bank would not give it to me because it wasn't under my name. Luckily, it happened a few days to my departure!

We did the exact same thing. She uses the Paypal Visa card at ATMs in China, no problem. Plus with Paypal, anyone can transfer money into your Paypal account at no charge.

A card would be safer than cash. I wonder if it would be best to send her money though Western Union, or I guess you used moneygram.com, but send her the money and have her get the card in her name. If the bank is an international bank it might be better. Just a thought.

One thing that I have come across because soon my fiancee will be getting her medical exam, but I believe the exam is paid for in advance once the NOA2 comes through and you know the number for the beneficiary.

Good luck,

Dale

Paypal. End of story. The beneficiary gets a Visa card in her own name and can be used wherever Visa is accepted. Western Union and Moneygram cost so much money, Paypal is free. I don't see a downside.
