Couple quick questions:

1) First good news: my check is being cleared at my bank as we speak. That being said, I noticed on the timelines of some individuals that a date is entered for the NOA1 before the check clears and then they have a second date when the NOA1 is in hand. Until you get the NOA1 in hand (assume they send in the mail), how are individuals getting the NOA1 date before the check clears? Hope this is not confusing due to wording.

2) First packet is initial package sent with I-129F and G-328A, etc by the petitioner to either VSC or CSC. Later there is packet 3 and then packet 4. Is there a packet #2? Maybe I am just tired at this point.

Thanks all. I really like this website and I applaud the individual(s) who created it and everyone who contributes.

Hi there! Congrats on having your check cashed and your NOA1. Let me see if I can answer your questions. We did the fiance visa in 2007 so I hope I remember this right, its a ton to work your way through, and very confusing. I remember having the same type of questions abou the packets.

ok...

1. You can check your case status online at the USCIS webpage. You set up an account and enter in your information given on the NOA1 and you'll get updates on incoming post/rfe/touches. Typically if you set up an account to view your case status, you'll see a change online, then you'll recieve the hardcopy in the post.

2. I don't remember a packet 2... hmm. The way I recall it is NOA1-> NOA2 (approval and transfer to Consulate) -> Packet 3 --> then Interview date--> approval (you get a packet kind of when you get an approval at the consulate to give at POE, plus your visa/sticker in your passport).

I hope this helps. Like I said its been a while since we've done this, I hope it helps a bit.

Good Luck!

Hey guys! Welcome and good luck!

If you have not received your NOA1 in the mail you can look at the scan of your check online, on your bank's website and you should find a case number on the back stamped by USCIS. It normally starts with EAC. if you get that number you can go on www.uscis.gov and register for online status. There you can see the date of you NOA1 and you can set up automatic updates for when your NOA2 is approved.

I have not heard of a packet #2. Only #3 and in some countries #4.

Best wishes!!

Grats on the check and welcome aboard.

1. Not sure how they get NOA1 date before check clears. We got our NOA1 date before receiving the hard copy by looking at the date issued on the letter. That's why we have a NOA1 and NOA1 hard copy received. I doubt you can check online status before receiving the hard copy of NOA1 because your number is only given in that hard copy and the website requires the number.

2. Never heard of a packet 2. http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/inde...&cty=London

UK portal, it issues packet 3 and 4. Malaysia also only issues packet 3 and 4. So I would assume, packet 2 is non existent.

The date printed on the NOA1 date is frequently before the check is cashed. This is because they send the NOA1 as soon as they get your petition and it takes a couple of days to get the check cleared. For example, I sent my I-129F on 4/27/09, the date on my NOA1 was 4/29/09, my check was cashed 5/1/09, and I actually got the NOA1 sometime around 5/3/09. Therefore my NOA1 date is before my check was cashed. I just didn't know that it was before my check was cashed until 5/3/09.

I didn't do a good job explaining this, but you'll see what I mean. Your NOA1 date may very well end up being 7/11/2009, before your check was cashed, since that is when they receive it.
