I'm working on the documentation for my wife's AOS, however I have a question about the G-325A form. On the bottom of the form it reads: "if your native alphabet is in other than Roman Letters, etc..."

My wife took my last name after the marriage, since her native alphabet is Cyrillic, so the question is, shall we type her first name in Ukrainian and her new last name in English, all in Cyrillic or leave it blank?

Thanks in advance.

Did she change her name in the Ukraine? Does her passport have her married name?

If so, so write her first and last name (married) in cyrillic. She can also put her original last name in brackets.

If she hasn't changed her name in the Ukraine, then I'd write her first and maiden last name.

no, she didn't change her name in the Ukraine...She arrived here on a K-1, we got married and then she changed her name...I guess I will go ahead then and type her first and maiden name in cyrillic.

Anybody else has gone through this?

Thanks

You're supposed to enter her legal name (which is her new married name). There's a place on the I-485 to enter the name as it appears on the I-94 (which would be her maiden name).

It doesn't matter if her passport or her home country has been updated yet about the name change for the purpose of filing AOS. You should, however, contact the consulate and get that taken care of at some point. Until then, she'll need to travel with a certified copy of your marriage certificate (or court order showing the name change) in order to fly with her old passport. It shouldn't otherwise make a difference.

As I mentioned in the PM, Alla did not change her name after marriage (SO much easier, I have to admit) I hope you are not holding up your filing because of this. I think either leave it blank or write her entire "new" name in Cyrillic. I think it will make no difference at all.

We did wait to apply for a SSN until Vika's married name cleared the verification process. This took about three months. We sent all the AOS paperwork very soon after we married though, and I agree with Gary there - definitely don't wait. I t didn't sound to me like you were, but just saying. :D
