What should I do about a joint bank account?

I just got married, and preparing stuff for AOS. What should I do about opening a bank account together? I have my own account at Bank of America (registered for me as a non-resident alien)and my husband has an account at a different bank- Desert Schools. I was just wondering whether I should add him to my account, or he should add me to his? Or scould we just open a new account? What did you do and what are the advantantages of doing it?Also, what bank is better in your opinion: Wells Fargo or Bank of America? Thank you guys.

Under prevailing conditions, any bank is as fragile as the next one. The Bigger the bank, the more the chances of toxic debt, thus the more the chances of a collapse. I opened an account with Citibank as a non-resident and added my wife(sponsor) to my account. She was already banking with BoA and added me to hers. You can keep both the accounts. The more the better.

My hubby and I have been wondering about all this for awhile! I'm interested in what others think and what thier experiences and opinions are about joint accounts, and furthermore, which bank is worth opening a new account in these days!

From what I have heard other people say, Bank of America is the easiest at which to open a new joint account for those of us in these kind of situations.

I had a checking account at a local bank-they originally told me I couldn't add my husband until he had a SS# or Tax ID. Once he had his SS#, they told me he HAD to have a Texas DL. Long story short, we weren't even able to have any joint accounts by our AOS interview. It wasn't a problem.
