Straight People,

This thread is addressed to you because you're a dominant group on this site. If the dominant group was Martians, I'd be addressing them instead. So do try to not get your boxers in a knot, you're nothing special.

In another thread, the question was asked - if you could get a significant discount for flying with an airline that did not sell tickets to overweight people, would you fly with them? By overwhelming margins, you answered in the affirmative.

So let's take this one step further. Disregard the fact that what I'm about to suggest may, in fact, illegal at this point in time.

Are you willing to buy a home from a builder who will not sell to homosexuals, if by doing so you get the home for half what you'd pay any other builder, with 1% knocked off your mortgage interest rate?

If your answer is no, how did you (or how would you) answer the aforementioned airline question? If your answers differ, how do you reconcile the two?

I answered yes on SkinnyAir.....It wasn't discriminatory-it was wanting all of the seat I pay for and to be as comfy as possible while flying.

I answer yes to this too. Not because of discrimination, but because I like the house and I can cut a $$$$ deal with the builder and mortgage broker. I would live in a street of gay people if I liked the area and layout of the house and I got the same discounts (50% off and reduced % on mortgage).

Just because the builder is a dickwad-no reason why I can't gouge him on discounts that benefit me from it.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

If the 50% discount and 1% rate cut was a family's only shot at home ownership, I wouldn't judge them taking the offer. Besides, the neighborhood that results will be full of straight people, not exactly scary. It's not like he's only selling to felons.

Key word: 'only'

He's not targeting felons. Any that end up there will do so by happenstance.

The only thing by 'design' will be the exclusion of homosexuals. Which, in and of itself, will not make for an unsafe or unattractive neighborhood.

If the builder was advertising his discrimination against homosexuals then I would guess that those who buy homes in the neighborhood either don't care or share the same prejudice. That's not the kind of neighborhood I'd want to live in.
