we had a religious ceremony in Morocco & a court ceremony here.

we wanted to plan a nice party afterward in NY or NJ, for my family... but they got so out of control about it, that we just didn't do anything. it was kinda sad cuz we really wanted to have a party, but with all the Jersey family infighting, we just threw in the towel... :(

maybe some other time... when i have the cohones to tell everybody to shut up.

I wasn't particularly interested in the minutiae of the reception planning, but he wasn't interested at all, as I think is the case with most men. What guy argues about the cake? I don't know, maybe if I had chosen something extremely hideous, he would have said something, but I doubt it. He did agree to come to sample the cakes though, which I have to agree was the best part of the planning.

Speaking of wedding cakes, I saw an episode of Cake Boss recently where the bridezilla came to look at her cake at the bakery the day before the wedding and she hated it and said it was ugly, then proceeded to ruin it with multi-colored frosting when the cake boss wasn't looking so that he would be forced to make a new cake. I truly felt sorry for the guy who was marrying her.

It only makes me think of how shitty their marital life is going to be. She demands, he gives in. It will only last for so long!

That's what this entire article seems to be suggesting, that how marriage works is that the bride is some domineering, self-centered b*tch and if the groom complains about something or has an opinion to the contrary, it's crash and burn time.

Thank God for Courthouse weddings.

Dual proxy was the ticket for us. Not only didn't we not plan the wedding, we didn't even show up! Who knows how many problems we were saved from??

seriously on number 1? i doubt any groom ever gets to choose the cake.

That's what I was thinking.

Do most men even care?

I also seem to have a difficult time getting much input on most details. Nik has been involved in selecting the officiant and picking out rings (we are making them ourselves - pricey, but our one big splurge), and he thought my idea for a location was perfect. I guess those are the biggest things for us anyway. Colors and cake flavors and food didn't get much attention, though I did run the menu by him. I think the long distance thing makes it more difficult to minutely discern the differences in color...

Also been keeping his mother updated, but maybe she is saving her mother of the bride skills for her own daughter's wedding. I would welcome someone trying a little harder to run my wedding for me, I have a hard time making many decisions. I could understand more if a mother of the groom only had boys - many ladies feel like they learned something from their own weddings and want to pass on the lessons learned!

Mother says that Dad's response anytime he was asked about things was "Whatever you like, dear" and an unscientific survey of long time married couples (3 couples, 25, 30, 52 years married) seemed to hint at a corresponding interest level in wedding details amongst the grooms. Of course there was no complaint that the weddings were over budget either. All brides were just as conscious.
