Some issues I need clarification on please:

1) If a CR-1 immigrant visa holder is still waiting for his/her green card, is it okay to apply for a change of address? To whom is the request submitted and what form must be used? Would this cause a delay in processing?

2) Does the signature appear on the green card?

3) If one wants to change the name of the green card from maiden to married name, how long does it take? And when is it better to do it, before or after applying for Removal of Conditional Status?

4) If a child is born to the couple before the parent's conditional status is removed, does it still acquire citizenship?

5) Does your SSN remain the same when you change from maiden to married name (on the green card and other IDs)?

6) Is it essential that all of one's IDs be consistent - married or maiden name ? I want to apply for a military ID, for example.

Thanks!

1) Form AR-11

2) I'd have to look but I think so

3) best would have been to do it at the time of name change. I would wait until removal of conditions

4) Citizenship is not passed to a child based on parental residency status but based on parental citizenship status... only one parent need be a USC to pass on citizenship. My daughter was born 1 month ago and my wife is still a conditional resident. My daughter IS a USC because of my citizenship.

5) SSN's assigned for life

6) It is best to be consistent

YMMV

1) If a CR-1 immigrant visa holder is still waiting for his/her green card, is it okay to apply for a change of address? To whom is the request submitted and what form must be used? Would this cause a delay in processing? Form AR-11 can be filed electronically or via paper/USPS - see USCIS.gov for details.

2) Does the signature appear on the green card? Yes

3) If one wants to change the name of the green card from maiden to married name, how long does it take? And when is it better to do it, before or after applying for Removal of Conditional Status?I might suggest doing it WHEN you file to remove/lift conditions

4) If a child is born to the couple before the parent's conditional status is removed, does it still acquire citizenship?Born in the USA = US Citizen (wth few exceptions)

5) Does your SSN remain the same when you change from maiden to married name (on the green card and other IDs)? Once the number is issued, it is that person's for life - never changes. Can change the name on the card when changing name, but the number remains the same.

6) Is it essential that all of one's IDs be consistent - married or maiden name ? I want to apply for a military ID, for example.Whenever possible.

Thanks!

I will answer what I can, I am sure others will cover the rest

3. Form I-90 is used. There is a fee for this. The name can be changed at any time, but you must submit proof of the name (marriage certificate)

4. A child born in the USA is a US citizen, regardless of parent's status, even children of illegal immigrants are citizens if born in the US. US birth certificate is all that is needed. A child born outside the US, if one of the parents is a US citizen has a "claim" to US citizenship but you must file a document recording the birth abroad.

5. SSN never changes, never dies. It is yours for life even if you subsequently move from the USA.

6. I am not sure it is essential, but it certainly makes sense. Changing the name in a foreign passport is dictated by the rules of the country issuing the passport. In some cases it can be done at a Consulate of that country in the USA.

Thank you. I am just concerned because I'm still waiting for my green card to arrive in the mail. We filed with my married name and even amended my passport to this end. But the NVC and USEM disregarded that and went by what's on the bio page of the passport. Upon receipt of the visa, I was told by the USEM that my maiden name on the visa wouldn't be an issue because it's the name on the bio page that matters most.

However when we arrived at the POE, an officer there told me to sign with my signature. I said, which signature, married or maiden name? He said "Whatever your signature is." To be consistent with what's in all our visa app forms, I used my married signature. Only then did he tell me the signature was going to be on the green card.

I recall the USEM official saying the name is okay no matter what because my picture and fingerprint are going to be in the card, anyway. But I wonder now: What is my official name in the US? If it's my maiden name, isn't it going to be an issue if I use my married name signature? Is it possible to go to the immigration office and change at least the signature (if indeed they use my maiden name for my green card)? We had repeatedly asked the NVC to use my married name, but they just kept disregarding it.

I wonder has anyone here applied for name change in their green cards before CR-1 conditional status was removed?
