Hey everyone!

I went to the Russian embassy in NY website to find info about changing my external passport, it expires in may, 2011. Website says that i have to give them information about my internal passport in order to change my external passport. My internal passport had expired last may, i did not change it, when i turned 20. Does that mean i have to go back to Russia to renew my internal passport first? Or is there any other ways to do it?

This thing really bothers now!

internal passpot was not required to change external at least several last years. all documents they needed were expired or expiring external pasport.

one more related thing - you can apply for new passport only within 1 year of expiration of the old pasport, not earlier.

You should contact the Russian embassy in Washington, D.C. for authorative answers. If Russia is like Ukraine, the internal passport has to be prepared in the country. If your international passport is good until May 2011, you only need to find out about the internal passport.

Internal passport is also required! I can start this process 6 months prior the expiration date. Im not gonna send them papers tomorrow, i just wanted to figure out how exactly it works. Hopefully, i wont have to fly to Russia to renew my internal passport in order to renew external one. Ill try to call the embassy tomorrow, i tried today, but nobody answered.

My wife renewed her international passport last year using the embassy in DC and they did not need or ask about her internal passport. They did ask about her propiska and if she was registered at the embassy. She told them no, and that she would not register. They went ahead and renewed her passport without any problem, and added the matrimonial name change notation to the passport.

I think I found the way that goes around! Website says that I have to show them the proof of my russian propiska, it could be my internal passport or just a paper from the township that says that i live at this address. This paper should work, because it shows my propiska!Whoo-hoo!Gotta call the embassy anyway, but i already feel a relief.
