Hello :)

we are getting ready with our documentation for lifting of conditions since we need to apply in November.

I am really confused however about the address we are using.

We are currently renting(and will continues to rent) so our utilitties bills and lease are on that address.

For everything else however - tax returns, employment, 401k, insurance we use my husband's parents address since it si a lot safer (you never know with the mail these days).

Do you think this would be confusing? Do we need to explain in the cover letter about it?

Anyone else in similar situation?

Thank you!

what address does USCIS think your at?

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

If you are going to submit evidence that has multiple addresses - You must clearly explain, why it's that way. I believe, you will be OK as long as your explanation is acceptable. Good Luck

We want to use my husband's parents address because as I said it is safe.

We live separately from them but all our official mail goes there anyway.

The only documentation that shows our current address is the lease, utilities and insurance(car and rental).

Do you guys think we should state it in the cover letter?

Does it sounds a solid enough reason?

I am getting more and more worried.

Thank you.

Hi Ivelina_Andrew,

Likewise, I'm in a similar situation too, regarding having two addresses, as you can read about here on my recent VJ post:

"N-400: 1 House/Property and 2 Addresses....What should I fill out on the forms? Help!"

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;#entry3016565

In my situation, I am going to explain it in the cover letter, and include a separate notarized letter explaining this also.

As well, from what other VJers have replied back to me so far (by the way, any other VJers have advice about my situation too?), I plan to use the "physical address" as the place where I am living at, and the "mailing address" as to where I get the mail.

In your case, you can use the place that you are renting as your "physical address", and your in-laws address as your "mailing address", when you fill out your immigration forms.

Either way, yes, in both of our similar situations, it is confusing in having two addresses. Sigh, yet another thing to worry about with immigration.....

But as long as you explain it with your application, it should be ok with the USCIS here.

Hopefully the incompentent USCIS doesn't mess this "double address situation" for either of us!....

Hope this helps. Good luck with the rest of your immigration journey too.

Manuel and I are in a similar situation with our I129 form. In Mexico, his physical address and his mailing address are different and in two different cities. His village does not have mail delivery, so his mail has to go to his uncle's address in a nearby city. There are so many instances where the physical residence and mailing address are different, that they are not going to throw up a red flag because of it. The forms ask for your physical address and mailing addresses. USCIS does make mistakes. so I would include a cover letter just to make them aware. It should not be an issue with them. Good luck!

Actually, last year my Father-in-law (who's an accountant) filled out our IRS forms and submitted it with his address on it, I think we signed it and then he forgot to write our address down and didn't know the house number by memory or something, so I had tax returns from both addresses, and then the rest of our bills from this one.

I wrote on the copies that the address was of our accountant and I didn't get an RFE or got asked for an interview or anything and was approved without glitches.

Hi Ivelina_Andrew,

You're welcome for the reply. Glad to hear too, that I'm not the only one in such a similar situation. Lol...likewise, I'm still afraid that they would think that this is odd, and I hope too that the USCIS will understand our situations and not lose/mis-direct/not send mail in anyone's immigration cases because of this.

Frankly, we shouldn't let the USCIS dictate our lives and the way that we live. Just because we live in a different address and receive mail at another address, doesn't mean we have to change our ways of living to satisfy them, right? (lol...though in my case I really have no choice in this matter of having two different addresses)

And yes, it does help to make a detailed cover letter and/or a notarized/certified letter too.

As for the difference between a certified and a notarized letter, they are both similar, really.

However,

A certified letter is more like: "This is to certify that this is a copy of the original"

versus

A notarized letter is more like: "I swear/affirm that what I wrote in this letter is true"

I went with the notarized letter, (even though I was offered both options), because:

1) It was cheaper that way (lol...$2 for notarized versus $10 for certified)

2) USCIS has accepted notarized documents before (for example, notraized affidavits), so they are more likely to accept such here

3) A notarized letter served my purpose here better

Hope this helps. Good luck with the rest of your journey too.

Hi Manuel y Kathy,

Glad to hear too, that I'm not the only one in such a similar situation, because of living in a rural/village with no/limited mail delivery and having to have mail redirected somewhere else because of it. Did Manuel have any problems getting mail from his uncle's address? Glad to hear too, that the USCIS didn't throw up any red flags because of it. Oh how rural/village life is different from city life, indeed! Mail service is not something to be taken lightly, that's for sure!

I hope too that the USCIS will understand our situations and not lose/mis-direct/not send mail in anyone's immigration cases because of this.

Good luck with the rest of your immigration journey too.
