Hello All,

I just returned from my Citizenship Interview at the USCIS Office in Phoenix, AZ. I arrived about 20 minutes prior to my 9:50 AM appointment. There were about 15 people seated in the large room ahead of me; after sometime the gentleman next to me complained about waiting for a long time, and explained to me that his appointment was set for 8:30 AM, and he’s been sitting here ever since.

Slowly, everyone in front of (and some who came after) me was getting called in. At about 10:55 AM, Ms. Balzer called my name, and we walked to her office. She asked me to provide my Passport, Green Card, and Driver’s License when we entered. Next she went on to explain that the interview would be under Oath and is recorded (both video and audio), and if I wished to proceed – of course I answered Yes.

She went through my N-400 application, just about question for question and we made a couple of changes (new address, added a trip out of the country) – 13 in total. After this, she had me sign the last page of the N-400 form along with another form that she provided, confirming my contact information.

Next came the civics test. I was asked the following:

1. What did the Declaration of Independence do?

2. Name one branch or part of the Government.

3. We elect a U.S. Senator for how many years?

4. If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

5. What does the President’s Cabinet do?

6. How many justices are on the Supreme Court?

Easy enough as I had memorized all 100 questions.

She then had me read the following sentence: “Columbus Day is a national holiday.” Then I had to write: “Washington is the capital.”

She filled out my “results” form and said I have been approved! She said that my Oath Ceremony should be either June 19 or 26 depending on availability. The interview took about 13 minutes to complete.

Oath to come next!

Congratulations!
