Sorry to crash in on the Canadian forum but I haven't found anything like this on the UK one. I've been in the Great Lakes area of northern Michigan for only a week now & within that time I've developed what I can only describe as acne!! I'm totally freaking out / will it go away once I'm settled? as I've not had anything like it since i was in my teens (20 years ago). I just can't understand it. What causes it? Is it a climate change?, the sun? I get married in a few weeks & i'll be so upset if i have to plaster myself in make up to cover these red blemishes/pimples.

I've been to the pharmacy today & bought some Neutrogena anti-bacterial face wash & cream so I'll see what happens...

Where are you from in the UK?

Michigan usually has the same climate as Southern Ontario which is extremely humid most of the time, even in winter the humidity levels are high. In the summer I used to sweat a lot if I was out and about, and for me that ALWAYS causes acne.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Ugh - I had worse acne in the past and my skin is extremely oily but sensitive- all hormonally related and having ovarian cysts certainly aggravates it non stop.

That said I use the following:

- soap free cleanser - Target (used to use Walmart's Equate brand in Canada) baby body wash believe it or not. Very mild but cleanses gently- hardly any scent

- straight clear Aloe vera gel as moisturizer in the summer, sometimes I skip it

- Clinique Dramatically Different gel - an oil free moisturizer in winter when I need a little more

- to exfoliate a couple times a week either a little baking soda mixed with my cleanser or Clean and Clear pore scrub

- for acne I use something with a low dose of Benzolyl peroxide- anything from Clean and Clear to Acne free to Proactiv

Frankly my face is an oil well and my pores will produce zits on command :( but this keeps things at bay.

I've used the entire Proactiv regimen for a while but found I was too exfoliated and sensitive but it does work

It does work! You have to make sure to use it right when you feel the pimple forming though - red or sore spot but you can't really see it yet. Once it's past that stage and already developed, it's useless as I've tried it. But if I use it straight away, it never comes through and goes away! It's worth the $$ as I bought it in Feb and still have not replaced the cartridge tip (you can use it 90 times before replacement)

And it can be shared, as long as you clean the tip between each use (with rubbing alcohol or soapy cloth)

OK I am resurrecting this thread to tell you all about this amazing product I bought. It's called the Clarisonic

www.clarisonic.com

So I found out about it when shopping in Sephora a few weeks ago. The lady told me all about it, raved about how amazing it is. She said Oprah uses it, Cameron Diaz, alot of celebs. Anyway I was like yeah sure, sales lady and went home with the brochure. I decided to do some research on it and was thorougly impressed. It's been featured in dozens of magaines and recommended by dermatologists and facialists.

It's basically like a big sonic toothbrush for your face. It can be used on all types of skin (acne, dry, sensitive, rosacea, wrinkles, etc) and it is safe for all skin types. So morning and night you put on your facial cleanser and you put this brush to your face. It beeps to let you know when to move (from forehead, cheeks, nose, chin). There are hundreds of little soft bristles cleaning oil, makeup, dirt out of your pores! It feels soooo good and soft when you're done. Then when you apply your moisturizer or lotion, your pores are completely open to take it in and it soaks in way better. It's so gentle it's not even exfoliating it's just deep cleaning, that cannot be done with your fingers.

Trust me I am not working for this company LOL I just rave about this product. Just google "clarisonic reviews" and read the hundreds of reviews on tons of different websites about how it really works. Clinical research shows that it minimizes appearances of pores, reduces acne, redness, makes skin softer. It's truly amazing, I don't know what I did before the Clarisonic and I haven't even been using it a full month.

Here's the down part - it retails for $195. BUT, when I take into account all of the $$ I've spent on dermatologist visits, prescription drugs, and tons of different skin care products this is a small price to pay for what it does. The brush heads are good for 4 months and it is completely waterproof you can use it in the shower. To me it was worth every penny and I just wanted you guys to know about it in case any of you have skin issues! Do your own research and see if it's right for you :) They offer a 60 day money back guarantee if you're unsatisfied with it. Oh, and you can buy a few brush heads and other people in your household can use it

:o I want it! But $195? I'm sure it pays for itself in usefulness, but I'm having a little sticker shock.

How should I frame this to my fiance? I was thinking, flawless wedding skin? :D
