Hi guys,

We're considering the idea of moving to a better place. Well, he is anyway. We're currently in the middle of a K1 with only the NOA1 received.

I've done some research here and it says to update the petitioner's address online with USCIS and that no form is needed (Ar-11 or something). Is it possible to update it if your case does not even show online yet? We have our receipt number starting with EAD and 10 digits but no online presence on the USCIS website.

Also, will it cause any delays? I've been hearing mixed stories from past threads I've read on it. I've also heard something about mail forwarding order from USPS incase USCIS cannot be trusted. How does one do that?

This is a big if situation. We would have a lot more privacy if we moved to start our married lives and really do like the option but it's not worth it if it adds a few more months to the process.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

You can register online and file your address change online but I would strongly suggest calling to make certain that the change is registering in their system. That way if it never shows up they can catch it early and change it over the phone.

I made my change of address online and when I called USCIS to have a new NOA1 mailed to me...they still didn't have the correct address, so they changed it over the phone for me and I received my NOA1.

Best Wishes

We've registered at the USCIS website but when asked to add a case to the account, we get the following error:

Validation Error(s)

You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:

* Your case can not be found at this time in Case Status Online. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283.

The receipt number is correct. So my question is, how can I update a change online if our case isn't even in their online database yet?

Most likely we will do it via the phone if anything, thanks cornbread. Hopefully can hear more from those that have changed their address with no adverse effects to weigh the pros and cons more.

I've read this problem with the case status online from several people. I would just call and have them change it over the phone. They will try to push you to do it online so you will just have to explain to them that you are n ot able to do that.

They will send a letter to you in the mail letting you know that an address change was received by them.....after you make your phone call. So when you receive that letter you will be able to rest assured that the correct address is in the system for you. You should be good to go after that.

I'm sure others can share their experience with this as well.

Have a good night.

Well we updated our change of address online and within a day finally managed to see our case online after 4 months over of not being able to.

When we called USCIS to confirm the address change the person (not supervisor) refused to co-operate and said you can't confirm a change of address on the phone. Is this for real? Sounds like lots of folks have done it and got by fine. Not sure if this is typical misinformation line bullshit or if you can't confirm your address change on the phone after doing it online.

Some help!

Document the call. Also try to get something in writing. Isn't the petition at NVC now.... maybe you should call them instead of USCIS? Sorry. It's been so long so I can't remember. At any rate, the reason I'm responding is that we had the same problem. The petitioner (now my husband) moved during the process and the NOA2 was returned from whence it came because the address change didn't catch up with the file. He spent considerable time trying to get them to resend it, and we did manage to get some of that correspondence in writing. You need the NOA2 for the AOS stage, you see. So make sure you document any discussions, and print out a copy of the online approval. You never know if you will be needing it or not.
