Its looking like next month that our dollar will be at par with the U.S. dollar so change that money as soon as that happens. I've been keeping track of it and July is looking like a great month. My bosses track the dollars every day and they say the same thing. Lets hope it happens.

I don't know Landa, I'm wondering the same thing. My dad and I have been following it and are trying to decide when the best time to buy is. Since the wedding is in August it looks like a great time for my family and friends to travel to the US. However my friend who bought her flight 2 months ago in US currency is none to pleased!

Hell Yeah!

I'm hoping it goes to $1.10 + like last year!! Today it's at $0.92. Only last week or the week before it was at $0.86.

The question though is how much? Did any of you who already moved, move your ENTIRE savings/funds? I'm talking money, not including RRSP's. Or did you leave any money in Canada?

we kept all canadian funds in a canadian account, just made his checking into savings, and hardly touch it due to the transaction fee (though less than their regular 11 bucks a month that the checking was lolz), and his IE is getting thrown in there.

I left quite a bit in my Cnd account. I would have literally lost thousands if I transferred it when I moved. So I'm keeping it safe and sound there until it's worth the transfer

I have RRSPs left in Canada from the many years I was working there during the 1990s.

I also have IRA and 401K plans in the US. I have no intent of moving anything about, (a) because it would trigger taxes (b ) because it gives me a natural form of diversification

Regarding short term moves in USDCAD, I'm not a chartist by any means. But if you like that sort of stuff, here's a current bit of technical analysis on the trend.

http://seekingalpha.com/article/140756-glo...and-trade-ideas

USD/CAD Commentary and Trade Ideas

It looked like the USD was trying to stage a minor rally against the CAD Monday morning, bouncing about 100 off the bottom despite higher crude oil. Perhaps Canadian's contribution of 9.5B to General Motors (GM), making this foolish venture bi national, is a partial cause for the weakness. Since there is no evidence the downward spiral is over, we look to try the short side should the bounce carry back to the 1.0900 level.

Bias: Lower Bias Term: Long Support: 1.0815 1.0750 1.0610 Resistance: 1.0900 1.0990 1.1120

What all the gibberish means (for those who don't trade) is that they see the strengthening trend in CAD continuing down to 1.07, 1.06 range. (Note that the markets quote as USDCAD, not CADUSD, meaning that it's "Inverted" as to how Canadians domestically quote it. USDCAD=1.06 means CADUSD=0.9433

And another similar conclusion:

http://www.mataf.net/en/forex/usdcad

USD/CAD - US Dollar Canadian Dollar

Short term (Intraday)

1,0812. USD CAD is in an downtrend directed by 1H exponential moving averages. USD CAD is in a consolidation after the last bearish movement. The volatility rises. ForexTrend 4H, daily (Mataf Trend Indicator) is in a bearish configuration. The downtrend should continue to gather momentum.

We could take a short position at 1,0810. We will put the stop loss above 1,0880 (-70 pips). The targets are 1,0715 (+95 pips, risk/reward 1:1.4), 1,0650 (+160 pips, risk/reward 1:2.3) . Each trade is dangerous, take care and put your stop loss. Trade configuration (1 Speculative -> 4 Trend following): 3.

usdcad.png

(Setting a stop loss at 1.088 means that this is the price a trader would cut his losses and get out of the market, should the trend reverse and the CAD start weakening.)

I'm actually going to transfer only some of my money to USfunds since most of my monthly expenses are still Canadian.(student loans). So the only thing I need US $$ for right now is for spending. We're also having our wedding in Canada, so I have to pay all our vendors in CDN dollars anyways.

I'm really looking forward to having it go equal again though! Makes the shopping deals even better than they already are!!
