How to check status at Local Office?

So I got the first NOAs on my I-485 and supporting paperwork (can't believe I did it all right the first time! So happy with that!) and my checks were cashed!

I signed up for the CRIS case status system and when I put in my receipt numbers it said that the case did not exist or couldn't be found. So I called the USCIS to ask why and they said because the case is transferred to the local office (in Tampa, FL) for quicker processing, so I can't look the status up online.

Does anyone know how I can check the status? Or do I just need to wait. The lady was very nice and gave me the address of the Tampa office but said they don't provide the phone numbers (I guess because everyone would be bothering them).

I am patient and it's only been a couple weeks since I turned in my application but I just wondered if anyone else has been through this or if there is any advice on what to do. Also it's kind of annoying because I can't really track well on here for other people since I can't see the status online.

The next step is the biometrics appointment, so I am hoping we get the notice for that soon!

Thank you for any advice! I LOVE this site!! I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!

First off, don't believe anything that the "USCIS mis-Information Line" tells you. They often don't know the answer to a question, so they just make stuff up. They have given out so much bad info over the years that people have gotten themselves in all kinds of messes because of it and they don't take responsibility for what they say. They would deny it.

Anyway, I doubt your case has been transferred to the local office that fast. It's probably still being processed before it gets transferred to either CSC or your local office. You should have biometrics about a 4-8 weeks from the date you sent it.

Yes, you can track your case whether it goes to CSC or the local office. The problem is that the online system is very unreliable. They do not enter all the cases into that system right away. Sometimes, cases are not viewable until after biometrics. Sometimes, they are never viewable. And sometimes, you can view them as soon as you get the first NOA. It's a crapshoot. And even after it's viewable, it may not be updated on time. My stepdaughters gave both received their EAD's and AP's and their cases still say "pending"
