Nearly 2.4 million displaced by offensive

ISLAMABAD: Nearly 2.4 million people have registered with provincial authorities after fleeing an anti-Taliban military offensive this month in northwest Pakistan, the UN and government officials said Monday, AFP reports.

...

Pakistan’s security forces launched their onslaught against Taliban fighters in the districts of Lower Dir on April 26, Buner on April 28 and Swat on May 8, sending terrified civilians fleeing their homes.

Northwest exodus prompts strike in Karachi

KARACHI: Shops in Pakistan's volatile financial hub Karachi closed Monday, witnesses said, after nationalists called a strike to protest the arrival of refugees from the conflict-hit northwest.

The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) movement, which promotes the cause of natives of southern Sindh province, opposes the influx of ethnic Pashtuns fleeing a military offensive in three northwest districts.

...

‘We don't see it as just an issue of helping the displaced people,’ said Abdul Wahid Aresar, who heads the JSQM.

The motive behind their arrival in the southern-most part of Pakistan from the north is to marginalise the native Sindhis, which we will resist.’

Is this part of Obama's master plan after hearing for years about Bush didn't push the Pakistanis hard enough?

Probably but what happens if it becomes a failed state with a Taliban type government filling the void?

Pushing in what way? Do they need the government forces going in and randomly shooting people and destroying their homes? You know there are many more people who didn't register-they are just staying with family members. I was reading a story a few days ago on msn.com about how the govt forces had taken over a key militant hideout killing more than 100 insurgents. The reporter viewed the area and asked what they did with the bodies of the insurgents and the govt military said there were no bodies and no blood. Makes you wonder what is really going on there.

Seems cold for the people in Karachi to be that upset about people just trying to survive...

Pakistanis aren't savages like the Afghans are. Pakistan has a sophisticated political, military and commercial elite. No worries.

Pakistanis aren't savages like the Afghans are. Pakistan has a sophisticated military which has intruded into politics and commerce enriching itself into elite at cost of military discipline. No worries.

Fixxored for accuracy--and it will typically takeover and get a "stable" (meaning near immovable) government.
