Declaration of meeting for the I-129F

Hey guys.

For this question on the I-129F i've thought of putting this in for the form:

'We both met online in December of 2008. On March 26, 2009, Simon flew to New Jersey to spend six weeks with me. During that time we travelled to New York for a few short trips but otherwise stayed at my residence in New Jersey. '

Rather than a long winded account of our relationship, i've seen some people suggest the short option which simply addresses the question while some insist of a page long sheet attached to the I-129F

In your opinion is my statement satisfactory or does it not meet the criteria for this question?

We did short and sweet, and pretty much like yours, and had no problem with the application.

I think it's too personal. Here's what I'd write:

'We both met online in December of 2008. On March 26, 2009, Simon flew to New Jersey to spend six weeks with me. During that time we travelled to New York for a few short trips. '

So you'll have photos and reciepts from both NJ and NY. And summaries of the emails, Skype calls, etc.

Short & sweet is the way to go. I didn't even mention how we initially met, only the brief details of when we met in person.

I wrote something like "Met on November 11, 2006. Laura traveled to England on such and such of dates, and Sven travelled to Chicago on these dates" that was it. Approved without a problem.

edited to add: we met at my uni when he was studying there...so it was a bit more straightforward than an initial online meeting, and then meeting in person at a later date.

So you'll have photos and reciepts from both NJ and NY. And summaries of the emails, Skype calls, etc.

Those emails etc.. won't be required until the consulate stage, correct? As it doesn't show any proof of meeting, rather an ongoing relationship.

I would recommend sending some proof of on-going relationship with the initial petition. There is no real need to front-load it unless you're going through a difficult Embassy for the visa but we have had someone get an RFE for more proof of on-going relationship at the USCIS adjutication stage. Better safe than sorry.

Kim is right. For the record, to illuminate how consulates can differ: Anyone who will go through the U.S. consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador had better front-load the USCIS petition with the kitchen sink of "evidence of relationship" AND write a novel in response to that question on the I-129F.
