I'm glad Cheney is speaking out.

One thing I hated about Bush (both Bush's actually) is this passivity toward their political opposition.

For eight years Bush let the Left define him and his policies, it was political suicide .... and damaging to our country.

I think we can see now Cheney was not on board with this style.

I hope Bush never opens his mouth again as the time to do so is over.

I couldn't disagree more... Bush's actions defined his place in history as one of the worst Presidents ever (not the left). I am so sick & tired of the right blaming liberals for everything & taking responsibility for nothing. The Republican party's downfall has everything to do with failed policies, a lack of responsibility for their actions & moving farther to the right (to the extreme right in some cases). If you want to keep blaming the liberals for your failures by all means please do so, but the only individuals who believe this nonsense are the same right wingers who are preaching it.

As for Cheney he's a heartless ####### who wouldn't have any qualms about water boarding his own mother.

You need to use more harsh adjectives. It would be more affective

Hang around the VJ forums more & read what the right wingers post & you will sprinkle in more adjectives as well. Sometimes I think they are just looking for attention but the scary thing is they are usually serious.

I think like a right winger. I read your posts and shiver at the thought of the minds running our country. Your view of the world is scary.

Peace

 What color is the sky in your world? You probably have no idea what my political views are, other than the fact that I can't stand extreme views (which tend to be based on stereotypes, half-truths & rhetoric). I'm hard on the right wing VJers only because there are a lot more of them (compared to left wing VJers) & they tend to stir up a lot more controversy.

If being an independent moderate is "scary" to you then I'm guilty as charged.

It all sorta depends where you are sitting at the moment. If you seem to hear more voices from the right, guess which side of center you are on sitting on.

And Cheney has one very large point. Since the sneak attack on September 11, 2001, America has not suffered another violent terrorist episode on its soil. That is not in dispute, and the former vice president believes tough interrogations and aggressive anti-terror moves were the cornerstones of the shield.

But the toll on human life has been staggering - 4,266 US military dead as of April 6, 2009 and an unverifiable amount of civilian lives have been lost, likely near 100,000, perhaps in the hundreds of thousands. As long as Cheney is right and Obama is wrong then all is well with the world. Is that your point? That the terrorists, who are now more determined and in greater numbers than ever before have not managed a strike on our soil? Why should they - we're sending the Americans to them. It's Ok as long as it is not your precious head they're shooting at.

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)

I despise Bush & Cheney for their arrogance & incompetence, which had a negative impact on our nation in many ways. Furthermore Bush's approval ratings for the last 2-3 years in office hovered around 28-30%, which means that many non-democrats (i.e. independents & even many Republicans) disapproved of their policies & decisions. You see my opinions in strictly partisan terms, but I have formed them based on observation (party affliation isn't important to me).

If it makes you feel better I rate Ronald Reagan as one of the best Presidents ever & Bush Sr. was about average. I just think W was terrible.

You express extreme views. That's what so odd about your outrage towards extreme views. That cognative disconnect in you makes it hard to take you seriously.

You are mistaking my reaction to the VJ right winger's views as being "extreme", but the fact is most of the VJers right of center are pretty far right (and thus their opinions are often not in line with "middle America" or even many Republicans). I have also blasted the Bush administration on many occasions, but there are plenty of non-liberals who feel the same way (in fact some of my Republican friends agree with me about the Bush administration).

Without listing my views on every subject it would be fair to say that they would be very much in line with Colin Powell (a moderate Republican) & I agree with Obama's policies probably 2/3 of the time. However what irks me (being a centrist) is that the neocons have made the label "liberal" a derogatory term. All things being equal "neocon" should carry the same negative connotation (or better yet neither should).

Off the top of my head.... I believe in the death penalty, a strong national defense (to include homeland defense), pro life (with some exceptions, such as rape), a balance between protecting the environment & stimulating business, gay rights (civil unions allowed but not gay marriage), gun control (honest citizens should have right to bear arms), etc.

Where I differ with the right wing: War in Iraq (mistake to go in & execution was royally screwed up until 2007), global warming (its real... you can debate how bad it is but there is overwhelming scientific data to prove its real), separation of church & state, medical research (believe in stem cell research), health care (don't believe in socialized medicine, but basic preventative care for all), torture of suspected terrorists (mixed feelings on this one, but clear potential for abuse)
