Hi,

First, we are doing DCF here in Israel. We're waiting for the interview letter. Anyways, my dad will be a joint-sponsor, since I don't make the requirements. I received a checklist, and on there it states that they need "proof of citizenship such as authenticated copies of your passport, naturalization or birth certificate or your alien card (BOTH SIDES)" from the joint sponsor.

I guess I'm a bit confused. What is an authenticated copy of a passport? Does it have to be taken to a notary or something?

Since we are filing here in Israel, what kind of proof should I get my dad to mail me, so that we can take it to the embassy? Initially, I asked my dad to scan his passport for me, and then I printed it off. Would this be acceptable or not? I just want to be 100% safe, so we don't have any trouble when we actually go for our interview and show them all the proof.

Just to be sure again(I read it in another post).....my father is supposed to fill out a I-864...NOT I-864A. correct? Who is the I-864A meant for? I should add, that I am a resident of Israel (hence the DCF route) BUT I do also use my parents home address as my own for receiving bank statements, etc. (mostly to keep domicile residence in the US). I am NOT listed as a dependent on their tax returns. So therefore, I want to make sure that he doesn't need to fill out the I-864A also.

Thanks

I believe a copy of his passport would do just fine, that is what we used for my step father as our joint sponsor and it was accepted. I think if you were using his birth certificate they needed that to be authenticated (someone correct me if wrong).

The I-864A is for co-sponsors who reside with the main or joint sponsors. Say if your father uses his wife's income as well SHE would fill out the I-864A to add to his I-864.

I'm not entirely sure about the tax information for your father since he is self employed, maybe someone else can answer who has more info on that matter

sorry to ask in your topic "msdelila" just similar question

The I-864A is for co-sponsors who reside with the main or joint sponsors and if they file that paper does that person has to get all proof like main or join-sponsor too ? such as taxes return or proof of work letter or even birth certificate something like that.

no problem. To answer your question, I'm pretty sure that you need the same stuff. They will need tax returns, and proof of citizenship, etc. I had my dad initially fill out the I-864A, and he sent me his taxes for the past 3 years and a scan of his passport.
