Hello I'm filling out all my forms for adjustment of status, in a couple of them they ask me for an A# i have one but they USCIS gave it to me when i applied for Optional Practical Traning and gave me my employment authorization card... should i put this number down even though the card expired in december?

I'm applying for adjustment of status while being in the country in a tourist visa so the only number i have is my I-94

"A" never expires... it is given to you and will follow you your entire immigration life... If you are adjusting from tourist visa you do NOT yet have an "A" number assigned to you. Until one is assigned to you each time it asks you for one on a form you simply answer "NONE"

Not really following you all your immigration life. It is not uncommon for someone that applies for adjustment of status to be given a different A # than the one given to the same person when he/she applied for EAD under OPT. It happen to me (I have been given an A# different than the one on the EAD under OPT). I called USCIS and been told by an immigration officer that this practice is not out of the ordinary.

To the original poster: fill in with the A# on your EAD. You will most probably be assigned a different A#, which will indeed be your "case" number for the entire period you are resident (until you became citizen).

11/17/08 : Application sent (I-130, I-131, I-485, I-765)

11/18/08 : Official receipt of documents stated on I-797C (Signature for receipt at USCIS was on 11/17/2008 at 10PM)

11/28/08 : NOA Received ( I-797C) for all 4 forms (forms issued on 11/26/2008)

12/18/2008: LUD on I-130, I-131, I-765

01/29/2009: Bio done

01/29, 30/2009: LUD on I485 and I765

2/10/2009: issued AP, valid 1 year for multiple entries.

2/23/2009: Got EAD card

3/8/2009: LUD on all applications. Shows approval of I131 and I765, still pending on I130, I485.

04/28/2009 at 9:30 AM: Interview. Told to wait 90 days for a resolution by mail.

05/01/2009: Card production ordered.

05/06/2009: Received approval NOAs for I130 and I485 (welcome notice, 10 years card). I130 still shows case received and pending.

06/18/2009: got the 10 years validity card. Process length: 213 days since sending the applications.

No RFE at all along the process.

Yes, and once you began your immigration life (not be be confused with your non-immigration life (OPT)... It is the same number and it will follow you the entire process

YMMV
