Hi there Ali,

It doesn't matter if you apply for EAD now or later.

You will still have to pay the fee.

But if you are quite bored at home, you can apply

for it the sooner you want.

Probably be a waste time to apply for EAD now

It took us about 60 days after initial AOS to receive EAD in mail.

And your AOS Interview is like 50 days away, So It seems like waste of time and energy to me........

If you want to apply for EAD, just make copy of I-485 receipt (NOA) and send I-765 form with it with no fee....But I wouldn't do it...Cause you'll get EAD in 60-80 days after filing...By that time, you'll have your green card...

11/21/2008 - I-130 upgraded to USC

12/17/2008 - I-130 approved

12/30/2008 - I-485, I-693, I-864, I-131, I-765 sent

01/10/2009 - NOA for I-485, I-131 received I-765 rejected (old form)

01/12/2009 - I-765 resubmitted

01/14/2009 - received letter for biometrics appointment on January 27

01/20/2009 - NOA for I-765 received

01/21/2009 - biometrics walk-in

03/10/2009 - CRIS e-mail I-131 approved

03/14/2009 - letter for initial interview on April 27 received

You have your interview in June, but there's no guarantee that you'll receive your greencard shortly after. Better to be safe than sorry. I would send in the application for the EAD. It costs nothing. Just send in a copy of your NOA from your AOS and a couple of passport pics and whatever else is required. Because the AOS process is unpredictable, it would be best to send the EAD now.

The EAD will take about two months or so and cost $300+ So take your choice. How about volunteer work? You do not need authorization and it will give you something to do, meet some people, etc. Voulnteer work is usually fairly agreeable as they cannot put too much on you for nothing. :)

It is not my understanding this is correct. In order to avoid the fee the I-765 must be filed with the AOS.
