Hi

my question is if my wife, age 21. needs the HPV vaccination before the medical exam and interview. If so, does she need all three shots to be completed before the interview? Or she can have the first shot and complete it later in the US before AOS.

Thanks.

Yes, she needs it in order to be able to apply for AOS. I *think* she can start it in Canada, and then have the rest after she gets to the US. But costwise, she may want to complete it in Canada if she can, as it'll cost $$$$ a lot more in the US.

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Totally agree - since she is under the age of 26 the vaccine may be covered by her provincial health care. If not, it will be heaps cheaper than completing the series in the US.

Good luck.

Thank you everyone for the great info. HPV is just still so controversial in the international medical community. I really dont know if it should be neccesary. On the other hand, I dont want to delay any process for CR1/k3.

Not getting the vaccine will delay it since it is a required immunization for her age group

Good luck.

What is HPV?

Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted virus in the United States.

There are about 40 types of HPV. ABout 20 million people in the U.S. are infected, and about 6.2 million more get infected each year. HPV is important mainly because it can cause cervical cancer in women. Every year in the U.S. about 10,000 women get cervical cancer and 3,700 die from it. It is the 2nd leading cause of cancer dearhs among women around the world.

HPV is also associated with several less common types of cancer in both men and women. It can also cause genital warts in the upper respiratory tract.

More than 50% of sexualy active men and women are infected with HPV at sometime in their lives.

There is no treatment for HPV infection, but the conditions it causes can be treated.

Why get vaccinated?

HPV vaccine is an inactive (not live) vaccine which protects against 4 major types of HPV. These include 2 types that causes about 70% of cervical cancer and 2 types that cause about 90% of genital warts. HPV Vaccine can prevent most genital warts and most cases of cervical cancer.

Protection from HPV vaccine is expected o be long-lasting. But vaccinated women still need cervical cancer screening because the vaccine does not protect against all HPV types that cause cervical cancer.
