At a prep school? This can't be swine flu since that only happens to illegals. Unless these kids come from narco families.........

City health officials say more than 100 students at the private St. Francis Preparatory School in Queens have come down with a fever, sore throat and other aches and pains.

New York City Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden says a government lab needs to do more testing before authorities can pinpoint which strain of flu the students have.

NYC - probably swine flu but not sure

New York City Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden said nose and throat swabs had confirmed that eight students had influenza type A, indicating probable cases of swine flu, but the exact subtypes were still unknown.

Kansas - they flew to Mexico

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) announced today that two cases of swine flu have been confirmed in Kansas involving two adults residing in the same household in Dickinson County. Neither of the patients was hospitalized - one is still ill and being treated, and one is recovering.

One of the patients had recently traveled to Mexico, flying in and out of Wichita. Both persons work in Saline County and became ill with the same unique (H1N1) strain of swine flu that has been identified in Mexico, California and Texas.

CDC: Containment of the virus not feasible.

"We are likely to find it in many other places," Schuchat [CDC's interim deputy director for science and public health program] said at a press conference today. "We don't think containment [of the virus] is feasible."

Dickinson County, Kansas - is that very urban?

The population was estimated to be 19,322 in the year 2006. but the less people around, the less likelihood of catching it.

My wife and I went to the boardwalk at Point Pleasant beach today. It was packed, beautiful sunny day near 90 degrees. Tons of New York license plates. If I cough I'll post about it :jest:

This could be interesting.

In 1918, there was a flu pandemic that killed many people around the world. /That/ strain probably mutated from avian flu; but I believe they have only been able to isolate the Fort Riley strain, which may not have been the pandemic strain as it wasn't as deadly as the eventual pandemic came to be.
