I have looked for this in this site but for some reason the search will not direct me to it. I am sure it has been talked about. Anyone know the address to the Texas Barbecue that some have talked about in HCMC?

Thanks

Jack, I'd just call Mark. He will know where it's at. I went there once, but I couldn't begin to tell you how to get there. Just so you know, I wasn't terribly impressed by the place. It's just a bunch of white people eating overpriced, mediocre barbecue.

But don't let me discourage you. I didn't think it was THAT bad that I'd tell everyone to stay away.

Congratulations again to you and Xuan on your apparent success.

How much you like it will probably depend on how much you like Vietnamese food, and how long you've been in Vietnam. If you don't particularly care for Vietnamese food, and you've been in the country more than a week, you'll probably love it. :P

I hate fish, and the bright white pho noodles make me gag.

Yeah I ate there twice.. Me being from Texas, I wasn't too impressed. the 1st time I ate there the ribs were kind of dry wasn't too good, 2nd time I at pulled pork sandwich, it was decent but not something I crave to go eat again. In my opinion I like going to al fresco's on dong du street right across from the sheraton hotel. Their ribs are better, the burgers are really good, pizza there is pretty good being made from scratch, and the customer service is outstanding. It seemed more foreigner friendly than Texas BBQ place even though the owner, an American, was around, the employee didn't seem to pay attention as much as al fresco's employees did. Plus al fresco has more people and you can't go wrong with a crowded place in Vietnam. My wife's family motto is if it's packed full of people then it's gotta be good. I think that could be very true in Vietnam. Texas BBQ didn't really have that many people there when I went. It has a good location though. The one thing that stood out to me at Texas BBQ was that they had DR. Pepper! That's the only place in Vietnam that I know has Dr. Pepper. They are the only one's that import it I think.

Wow. I'm gonna have to check out al fresco's next time I'm in HCM. I only get one day in HCM each trip. The rest of the time I'm up in Hue.

If what you say about crowded places is true, then that doesn't bode well for the only authentic looking pizzeria I saw in Hue. The place was empty, except for the Italian owner who was sipping a coffee and reading the paper. Come to think of it, Texas BBQ was the same way when I went there. We were the only customers. :(

I'm not big on Dr. Pepper, but I did enjoy the Bud! Vietnamese guys seem to favor Heineken, which I think is swill.

I ate there friday the night before I headed back on the plane and Tran grabbed a paper menu with the address on it. I will be talking ot her tonight at 9pm and if she still has it I will post the address. They have american beers like budwieser and coors light. I got a burger it is american meat but it was smaller than a quarter pounder. Tran had the steak it was the 10$ steak I told her to get the 25$ but she didn't want me to spend that much money. The taxi driver told us about it when we were heading to another place. The nacho's were good they also had corn on the cob I dind't get any but I think it was american sweet corn not like the corn in Vietnam.

How are their steaks look? Are they like what we have here? I went to couple of places in Vietnam but their steak is totally different from what I was thinking. We end up going to Lotteria so I can introduce her to American fast food (burger and fries). That's my experience.

And oh yeah, we also went to "Them 1 To". It was nice where they have some italian food there too. Like spaghetti & meatballs and other korean food. I like it because the service was very good and the food there is fantastic.

The Steak she had was a smaller one angus certified. They do have the omaha steaks that are good 2 of the 25$ steaks are 360 gms I believe and the 38$ steak is 760 grams. There is a good Chinese resteraunt that servies Australian steaks for 220k dong I can get the address if you like but I don't remember the name of it. THere is a place called the Milwakee bar and grill that has New Zealand steaks but they are small and you don't get allot for the money. I have only eaten at 2 places that have burgers from america and that was the texas barbuque place and the other is a place called I love burgers. If you give her a burger from the Lotteria you will scare her off from eating burgers my Wife will not eat any burgers after trying one from there. There burgers are from korea and not very good. I went to 1 resteraunt where the materdee told me the burgers were from america to get me in the door and when the waiter came up I asked him and the waiter said they were Vietnamise burgers so we left.

Oh yeah the owner is from Texas so he speaks english so you can tell him how you want your steak so you don't have to worry about ordering one thing and getting another.

Wayne's Texas BBQ is decent. In Texas it wouldn't make the list, but for that far from home it's pretty good. Breakfast is Good to very good there. I agree with some of the others, Al Fresco's has very good ribs. The nacho's are some kind of rice chip instead of corn chips. I ate them anyway. I would recommend it. Although, I only ate there because Chinh wanted to. I think she was worried that I would grow tired of Viet food. I don't ever see that happening. It is awesome!!
