My Fiancee is Canadian - we have filed all the papers for a K1 Visa, had the medical, and informed the Consulate (Montreal) that we are ready for the interview. Today, I received an email from them, asking how long it takes to get the interview. They responded that it takes 4 -6 months to get an interview.

We are besides ourselves. This has been in process for almost a year already. I am living in Canada with her.

How do we get the interview earlier? Is there any way? Is there a fee I can pay? ANYTHING?

We need to get home. Home is in Miami. There must be a way.

Any help you can give me, any advice, any leads, is GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

There's really no way to get an 'earlier' interview.

Without a timeline in your profile (I know, you just joined today) it is hard to see if you're on/behind 'normal' timelines.

According to statistics on VJ - Montreal is averaging 95 days from the time they get the approved petition, until an actual interview.

Sorry, Montreal seems to be slow when scheduling interviews. There is no way to speed it up or to get an earlier interivew.

I am sorry

I updated the timeline as best I can.

Can you clarify something for me please?

Is it 95 days to get the appointment scheduled? Or 95 days to actually have the appointment?

Thanks again.

According to the statistics - the average (keep that in mind, an average an is only based on VJ members not based on every case pending at that Consulate/Embassy) is 95 days from when they get it, to an actual interview.

Thanks for answering. I am still unclear.. sorry. That timeline says 95 days from NVC to interview at Montreal. But the package of forms was all mailed to Montreal. I am confused? Sorry to keep asking.

Well, am not certain where the confusion is but I'll guess it's the NVC portion.

To kind of backtrack:

Your petition was at USCIS (that's where you sent it) - either California or Vermont - doesn't matter.

When your petition was approved, it was sent to NVC - where it stayed briefly and was forwarded to the Embassy/Consulate (apparently Montreal).

That average (which since you now have a timeline you are now a part of) is referring to when the consulate received the case (which according to your timeline was 12/27) - so, on average, 95 days from 12/27 until the interview - sounds like you're on target with the norm.

If that helps.

Obvious wild cards - not returning requested items with package 3 in a timely manner.

Thanks again. We did not get the package back to Montreal until about two weeks ago telling them we were ready, so I guess that is when the 95 days will start, if they are still on that type of timeline.

This is a very long and drawn out process. I apologize for being frantic.

Also: THANKS to Canadian Wife for the reply also!!

Embassies can make their own workload - Ankara says they can take 3-4 months to grant an interview, so I consider myself lucky to get it in 2 months.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

You're being a bit too literal.

For you - based on your timeline - the statistics are relating to 95 days (on average) from 12/27 (the day you say the Consulate/Embassy received your approved petition). Now if you sat on the Package 3 checklist for a while - add about that much time to the statistics since a majority of people (in my opinion) probably return this package very quickly.

Thanks again. As I noted in my timeline, it took a while for us to complete the package - there were child custody documents to get and the wait for the medical was long. So the Consulate did not get the package until 3/28/09. That calculates to June. If it were 95 days from 12/27 - we would have been there already I think.

You would be there already (or close to anyway) had you returned the Package 3 faster - are you saying you took 3 months to respond back with the package 3?

Yes. We had to get papers from her exhusband. The delay was unavoidable.

no need to blame the ex you had months prior to your approval to get the papers in order

Please don't be judgmental. You can't get papers together until you know what is required. Once we did, we proceeded. I am not finding blame, just stating facts.
