Hi guys, I'm to the forum and I'm looking for some help.

My fiancee and myself just got our NOA2 for our K1 Fiancee Visa, and I am currently filling in the forms.... I'm the UKC, my finacee is the USC.

On the DS-230 part 1 form, it says the following:

Question 12: You present occupation?

Question 22: List all employment for the last 10 years?

Now I'm not to sure what to put in these sections, the reason being.... I have been helping my mother look after my disabled step-father since 1996, which hasnt left me time to actually work in a full time job.

I have been in touch with both the the local job centre, and the carer's allowence people themselves about this.... but none of them are sure as to what I should actually put on the forms.... Some of them say it is classed as a job, some say they're not sure.

Does anyone know if being a carer for someone and claiming carer's allowence is actually classed as being employed?

Should I put carer for question 12?.... and also carer for question 22?

My finacee is a-little worried, incase its not classed as a proper job and I have to leave both questions blank, looking like I havent done anything for 10+ years.

Or if I do put in carer for both questions, and the Embassy calls / checks up and then the carer's people tell them on the phone they dont class it as a job.

Any help would most gratefull.

I don't think it matters what you put on the form in terms of an "official title". You could say " unemployed (home-taking care of disabled step-father 1996 to present)."

I think it would be most appropriate to say unemployed unless you received wages for caring for him. I wouldn't leave it bank.

I would put down "unpaid caregiver to a relative" and leave it at that. They do NOT do check-ups on such things -- never heard of it through London. They also wouldn't give a fig if you, the UKC, had never been employed. They just want to know what you've been up to in the past 10 years, that's all. Just don't leave it blank!

Good luck! :)

The Petitioner needs to have a job, and you're the beneficiary do not require one, so you can put NONE on both questions... Your job is meaningless in this category. Hope this help...

... well, sort of.. as stated previously, they just want to know what the alien fiancee has been up to. But as to who "needs" a job... *usually* the petitioner has a job and submits and affidavit of support, but that is only if needed to show that the alien fiancee will not become a 'public charge' (e.g. go on welfare or food stamps). There are other ways of showing this.
