Ok... So I've probably read about 20 sites saying the same about this.

I'm really confused and I really don't know anything... I live in denmark and have danish citizenship, but I was originally born in Romania, and my birth certificate is in romanian, but has an approved, translated document in danish. What problems could this arise?

Also... would a k-1 visa even be right for us? A little background story. My bf is 18 years old :) And I'm 20. We've been together nearly 3 years and we're both really sick of not being able to be together. I'm really considering starting this k-1 thing so that I can be with him for good. But how does one become a fiance? Do we have to do something? Like buy a ring or what.

Also would the weird age situation become a challenge? I don't know, but don't people in some state still get considered underage untill 21?

Also, seeing as he's only 18 and is just about to start life on his own, he probably doesn't have enough money to pass the requirments(but his family do support us and will help)... So would it be ok if he get someone from his family to sponsor us? What if I bring money of my own?

If he files for a petition and it all goes like it should... When do I come in play? What would my role be?

Can anyone give me examples on how long time this process took for successful k-1 holders?

It all sounds really hopeless doesn't it? ... I really doubt we're even eligible to apply for a k-1 but I really hope we can.

Also, please don't judge either me or him cos of the age. I know we're both young, and that we might be making a decision that's too serious. But if you knew how we felt(which I assume most of you do), no one will question or relationship and this decision.

So I will be really really grateful to any useful answers. It's nice that there's people out there who went through this :)

I am not sure about the birth certificate, but the age situation i dont think will be a problem. I started the k-1 process with my husband when i was 18 and he was 23, so 18 is the adult age here, 21 is the drinking age its different. As for becoming fiance. if you want to get married, or if someone proposes, and the other accepts, you are a fiance. No need for winning races or passing tests to become 1 hahah  As for a co-sponsor, its good, and alot of people have them, so you should be fine, just check the poverty guidelines. And because you are going to sponsor him, or if he is going to sponsor you, both monies from both parties can be considered, also assets too, like if you own a car, or have land, or a mortgage, it all counts. As for examples on how long it took, well for my husband and i, i filed for him last march, and we were approved august 11th, he had his interview in mexico in december, and was home for christmas. We are now doing he AOS part, which is where he gets his greencard now. Also no judging, i am young to, as is my husband, but we love eachother as i am sure you and your man do too, whats age got to do with it???

Oof... I forgot to ask:

About evidence... We've been together within the last 2 years some times. But I think most of the boarding passes dont exist anymore. We have all the itineraries but how strong does the evidence has to be that we have been together?

Evidence is later down the road after you guys are approved and it is time to go to the interview to get the K-1 visa. WHen that part comes, you will need stuff like itineraries ifyou can, pictures lots and lots of pictures, with family with friends, (Obviously you both in the pictures) make sure that you know who every1 is that is in the picture, i know they asked my husband that, calling cards if you use them to communicate, you can have skype records, and you can even have your friends and families write letters saying that they have met your fiance, and that his family has met you, they like you, and that they are looking forward to you being a part of the family and that kind of stuff.

Just stating your mutual intent to marry is sufficient for USCIS.

Also would the weird age situation become a challenge?

It shouldn't.

What does your state law say?

Cosponsor is acceptable.

What if I bring money of my own?

Can't be used unless your living here with him for the affidavit.

If he files for a petition and it all goes like it should... When do I come in play? What would my role be?

When you go to the interview/medical.

Can anyone give me examples on how long time this process took for successful k-1 holders?

Average is 6 months.

It all sounds really hopeless doesn't it? ... I really doubt we're even eligible to apply for a k-1 but I really hope we can.

Don't know, from what you posted, you are eligible. - Just re-read the I-129f instructions, the eligibility is listed.

Thanks for the replies :) Although I think I kinda confused people here.. He's the us citizen, I'm just wondering from the foreigner point of view what I shuld do.. Right now we're both doing what we can to figure this out.

But there's just a little problem... Then time we spent together, we didn't really take alot of pics or anything like that :P We do have some but I don't know if it's enough...

The letter-thing sounds like a good idea.

And what's a skype record? Anyway luckily I've called him with my phone alot of times, and my service keeps a log online over all my calls for me, so i don't think that would become problematic.

The thing I'm worried about is just that we didn't really keep boarding passes n such.

Anyway I thak you alot for you answers and Im glad you're not judgmental ^^

Everyone, the OP is the beneficiary not the USC.

Your BF needs to do all the work. Both of you can read the guides here on VJ and the example forms. You can help collect information about your meeting in person within the last 2 years prior to your filing. You will also need to complete and sign the four pages of the G-325A, passport photo, and letter of intent and send to him.

He has a bunch to do at his end.

Good luck.

Yes, the medical and interview is first (after, of course, the initial petition), then you get the K-1 Visa.

Unless you have a visa to visit, or fall under the VWP, you cannot enter the USA until you get the K-1 visa.

If you can visit, then you will need to show strong ties back to your home country at the port of entry.

There are other visa's - but you are only talking about the K-1 now.

So I understand that the medical thing and itnerview is like a make it or break it deal?

Like once all the stuff has been sorted, only the interview is left? And depending on that I'll stay or go home?

I'm sorry if I understand this incorrect :P It really is confusing.

Ok... So I've probably read about 20 sites saying the same about this.

This is THE site. Forget the others.

I'm really confused and I really don't know anything... I live in denmark and have danish citizenship, but I was originally born in Romania, and my birth certificate is in romanian, but has an approved, translated document in danish. What problems could this arise?

None, except you'll need an English translation by interview time.

Also... would a k-1 visa even be right for us?

Yes, it is the quickest, on average.

A little background story. My bf is 18 years old :) And I'm 20. We've been together nearly 3 years and we're both really sick of not being able to be together. I'm really considering starting this k-1 thing so that I can be with him for good.

Welcome to VJ

But how does one become a fiance? Do we have to do something?

You better ask your mother! Just joking. Read the Guide and the FlowChart and the Sticky at the top of the forum page.

Like buy a ring or what.

No. You have to love each other and be serious and want to get married.

Also would the weird age situation become a challenge? I don't know, but don't people in some state still get considered underage untill 21?

Not an issue.

Also, seeing as he's only 18 and is just about to start life on his own, he probably doesn't have enough money to pass the requirments(but his family do support us and will help)... So would it be ok if he get someone from his family to sponsor us?

Yes that will be needed.

What if I bring money of my own?

Does not factor into the decision unless you send it to him and he places it in a bank account that he can reference to.

If he files for a petition and it all goes like it should... When do I come in play? What would my role be?

Read the Guides. See button at top of this page. Also look at applicable forms under Downloads and look at the example forms under Example Forms.

Can anyone give me examples on how long time this process took for successful k-1 holders?

Check out the K-1 information from the button at the top titled Immigration Timelines.

It all sounds really hopeless doesn't it?

No, it sounds all normal.

... I really doubt we're even eligible to apply for a k-1 but I really hope we can.

You are eligible.

Also, please don't judge either me or him cos of the age. I know we're both young, and that we might be making a decision that's too serious. But if you knew how we felt(which I assume most of you do), no one will question or relationship and this decision.

No judgement.

So I will be really really grateful to any useful answers. It's nice that there's people out there who went through this :)

My Alla and I are just starting out on our journey. Read the Guides. Do searches on the search feature. There is tons of information here from folks who have gone through all this (plus more) many times in the past.

Read the Guides (get the hint?)!!

So I understand that the medical thing and itnerview is like a make it or break it deal?

Like once all the stuff has been sorted, only the interview is left? And depending on that I'll stay or go home?

You file the petition, which contains tons of information which you'll learn about after reading the Guides.

Then when the petition is approved in the US, it is sent to the NVC and from there to the US Embassy in your country.

Then a medical examination is scheduled as well as the interview.

The medical is to ensure you have no mental diseases, no communicable diseases, and have all the required immunizations.

For the interview you and your BF complete more documents and assemble more information and then you go to the interview at the embassy.

There they will take your money (welcome to the US), inspect your documents, and then you'll have a one on one interview with an embassy official.

You'll be asked hard questions like, Where did you meet your fiance? Where does he live? What does he do for a living? Why do you want to become married? If you have a real relationship, you will know the answers.

Don't worry, from the guides above, VJ has assembled all the questions that folks before you have been asked.

Then the person will say, You are approved. Then you will be in disbelief and you will call you BF and he will be elated.

Then you have 6 months to leave and come to the US. Then you have 90 days to get married. (Legal at the county courthouse not necessarily a big ceremony.) Then you have more documents to file and will keep filing documents to the USCIS for many years. But, you will married and together and happy.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply...

And don't worry, I do read guides and such, I just have difficulties understanding them

Anyway... But that means I have to leave usa and then come back? I cant stay? seems like a bit of a waste of plane tickets x_x But anyway, it wouldn't matter much to me, as I just wanna bi with him and that's all :) A little extra hardship is worth it.

I should show this thread to my bf once he wakes up so we can discuss it further.

Anyway thanks to everyone's answers :) You've helped me understand this thing a bit better.

You can only legally stay as long as the stamp (authorized stay) on your I-94 (with a valid visa/VWP of course) is valid.

If it's stamped for 90 days. you get 90 days. If you get 6 months, then, you can stay 6 months.
