i am filling one out, as are my parents (who are co-sponsors) but i'm wondering where in the process this gets sent to the consulate. my parents are pretty wary of sending all their personal financial information.

my fiancee is filling out packet 3. can my parents send this info directly to the consulate or does it need to be sent with other things?

thanks again you guys!

The I-134 is submitted to the embassy/consulate along with the rest of the required info after the NOA2 is received.

Parents are worried that your fiance will steal their identity?

All the parent submits is tax transcripts for the past couple of years and an employer letter. All the bank account, etc. info isn't typically needed for the I-134.

Have your folks read through the I-134 and I-864 forms and instructions to learn what is to be submitted and the sponsor's responsibilities? That might help them to better understand the process.

well no. obviously they're not worried about my fiancee, but if the packet got lost or stolen that's a lot of info right there.

he is going to send the first part of the packet, which is the online form, the bio, and the checklist.

i'm assuming the affadavit gets sent after the next round of paperwork gets to him?

I'm pretty sure she meant that her parents were worried about the information being accessible to others while in transit. This isn't an unreasonable concern.

My parents also don't want to send their tax info to my fiance. Its not about him stealing their identity. In my family, finances are a really private thing...I don't even know some of the info that is on their tax forms, so I doubt they want anyone else knowing it, if their own daughter does not.

So if someone has an answer to the OPs question, this would help me as well! I'm assuming you just send the i-134 and tax info to the embassy with a cover letter?

Varies by consulate. In Kiev you do not "send" anything. You take everything to the interview. I know some consulates require you send it there. Read the directions for your consulate. If they say to send it to the fiance, then send it to the fiance to bring to the interview. Do not deviate from what the procedure is for that consulate. I also strongly suggest that only ONE person fill out all forms in this process and prepare ALL documents. Just my feeling. Having two people do something separately and expecting it to come together far away just compunds the chances of error. I further believe the correct person to do this is the US citizen. If you are comfortable with having the intending immigrant fill out forms, then by all means. Good luck

Your responses indicate that information gets sent to the consulate. OK, many do it that way. But again, I caution you. Having more than ONE person complete forms and then more than one person sending "parts" of the package to the consulate separately is really playing Russian roulette with the whole process. Good luck with that and be sure to use certified delivery. If your interest is a successful process, I strongly suggest a more centralized system of document collection and presentation

The package has exactly the same chance of getting lost or stolen being sent to your fiance or the consulate. Be sure to use certified delivery.

i do all the filling out and i agree that it's just easier for one person to handle all the paperwork.

my question still stands, however. when in the process does the affadavit get sent?!

The sponsor's I-134 is one of the documents the beneficiary is told to bring to the interview. However, the same is not necessarily true of the co-sponsor.

The London embassy's website says "The affidavit of support should be given to the applicant to present on the day of his or her visa interview. If you do not wish for the person to see this affidavit, you may send it directly to the Embassy with a covering letter giving the applicant's full name, date and place of birth and case number".

I know you're in Canada, but I find it hard to believe the US embassy there would require someone to divulge private financial information to the beneficiary in order to be a co-sponsor. Such information is generally regarded as being of a confidential nature.

If it were me, I would ask the co-sponsor to forward the info to the embassy once I had an interview date confirmed. As long as it contains a cover letter containing the beneficiary's details, they should put it in their file. There's no requirement for the beneficiary to sign it, see it, or even know what it says, so I don't see why he or she would have to hand it to the consular staff personally on the day of the interview.
