My fiance lives in England, and we have a ticket booked for September, but I don't think I can wait that long. We're looking for some cheap tickets from Chicago O'Hare to London Heathrow. I have looked on every website that I've ever used, but the tickets are so expensive. Does anyone have any tips on websites they've used before to find cheap international airfare? Or do you have a ticket booked that is pretty cheap, and where did you go to find it? Anything will help! I just want to see him so bad!!!!!!

Sian flies from Gatwick-London to Cincinnati for £420 on Delta, non-stop. I don't know what the price is going the other way, nor if Cinci is close to you. (Cinci is Delta's #2 hub, hence the cheap, non-stop flights).

Edit: Duh. Just re-read it. Guess you're in or near Chicago then. It was £100 more for Sian to fly into O'Hare, and she had to change planes with a 5 hour lay-over to do so. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I recently dropped roughly $850 for a New York-Heathrow flight! Good luck. Airfare this summer is obscene.

420 pounds doesn't sound bad. But the exchange rate right now is enough to make me cry... :D

That's why Sian is coming here this Sunday. If she waits until July or any later in June, the price doubles. If anyone is going to fly to the UK, I'd do it NOW. This weekend. Otherwise, expect to pay double.

I am flying to Heathrow (via Chicago!) on June 29. Trust me, I know all about the outrageous airfare! I won't be doing a summer trip over there ever again, but I wanted to experience an 'English summer' once. :) Anyway, you better plan to pony up the bucks or wait until after Labor Day to go.

Rates start going up after Memorial Day, and don't come down again until after Labor Day. Or at least that is what I have found.

We are flying over to England from Chicago on August 7th and found a price of about $750 to Dublin (Aer Lingus) and then we got a real cheap flight from Dublin to Leeds, bringing the total to under $850. We used cheaptickets.com You HAVE to be flexible I think this year to find lower fares.

Seriously though, if you can hang on until September, you'll save a lot. June, July & August are peak months for travelling to Europe.

 airfare is ridiculous right now.

I paid only $400 to go to Dublin in May-now that ticket is about $850................american money isn't worth the paper it is printed on. $300 got me about 200 euro :(

Aer Lingus? Is that Connie's brother, oops sorry. Back to Topic. Airfare rates in general have been climbing, 1 yr and a half ago we went to Madrid round trip for $425US and Cristina used to fly from Madrid to here for 345Euro's but we're going to Barcelona in Aug/Sept and it's like almost $1200 per person and looking ahead for flights so Cristina can make 3 Kings doesn't look that much better, $745 taking 2 stops. ARGGGGGHHHHHH

maybe keep an eye on the last minute travel companies. Something might come up that'll land somewhere in the UK, then you can get a local flight to where you need to go.

When James and I went to Scotland in May for a friend's weddng, another of the wedding guests flew into Manchester I think, and then booked a local flight to her final destination for only 30 pounds. It saved her a couple hundred dollars by connecting over going direct.

... They have a summer?

:P

But yeah...summer prices from the US to anywhere in Europe are obscene. I used to work for an airline in reservations, and anything less than a $1000 round trip as a pretty good deal for this time of year.
