Hello Vj members,

A friend of mine needs help and wud appreciate if you can give me some ideas to help her.

My friend with her 15 yr.old son already had their visa(K1 and K2) 2 months ago and she wants to extend it for financial reason as her hubby lost his job for 3 months now.

Is it possible to request for extension of her and her son's visa?What she need to do to extend it for a couple of months till they can come up for the plane ticket?

And if she can extend how long can their visa be extended?

Pls. help i really would appreciate it for her. Thanks in advance.

Your friend has 6 months from K-1 issuance to enter the US. So there is still time.

Hi thank you for your reply. Is it 6 months of 3 months as her k1 visa is only valid for 90 days?

The 90 days start once she arrives at her POE. She has 6 months to get to the POE. (US Point of Entry}

Is your friend in the US already?

Nope she is still in the Philippines

Your friend may be able to extend the visa....she should contact the visa issuing consulate with this question. Is she also from the PI? In the "Manila Embassy K1 Visa Guide" I saw the following:

K1/K2 Visa Expiration: The K1/K2 Visa is valid for six months, which is good for a one-time entry into the United States. If the beneficiary is unable to depart for the United States immediately and the visa expires, a new one-time entry visa may be issued upon written request to the USE, which also requires the payment of another application and processing fee.

You should read the above mentioned guide, and perhaps she, or her USC fiancee can contact the embassy directly for instructions on extending the K1/K2 past its 6 month validity period.
