Hello good people of visajourney! Greetings!

We filed for AOS sometime last July 2008. Today we got a communication from

USCIS (something we don't like to get!) requesting us for Form I-693.

Now my question is...Will i have to undergo the physical exam (and consequently

have to pay more to the civil surgeon)? I am confused since in I-693 form it was

stated that a K1 will not be required to have physical exam as long as the AOS is

filed within one year from the overseas medical exam. Technically, we filed within

a year of my physical exam but now because of the RFE, it's been a year. (i had my

physical exam last Feb 08)

Please, Help me! I don't know what to do.

I got here with a K1 visa and during my AOs even if the appointment letter did not mention about the medical exam ..and even if my Medical exam at SLEc is still valid(less than a year) I went to my interview with a new medical exam result here from the USCIS authorized surgeon and yes you need to have another medical here.

Here is the answer to your question. However you are supposed to do that in Part b which

I showed in red. It will cost you a couple of hundreds. Welcome to US !......

What if I am a K nonimmigrant visa holder & already had a medical exam overseas?

A. K-1 fiancé(e) or a K-2 child of a K-1 fiancé(e), or as a

B. K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen or a K-4 child of a K-3

spouse of a U.S. citizen, and

C. You received a medical examination prior to

admission, then-

a. You are not required to have another medical

examination as long as your Form I-485,

Application to Register Permanent Residence or

Adjust Status, is filed within one year of your

overseas medical examination.

b. You will, however, be required to Part 1,

Information about you, and submit the vaccination

section of Part 2 with your adjustment of status

application. A designated civil surgeon must

complete the vaccination section and Part 5, the

Civil Surgeon's Certification.

Contact a Civil Surgeon in you area and set up another physical and have your shots transferred to the new I-693. It happens that you need another physical because of the slowness of the USCIS in their processing. This is one financial drain for all the ones who submit their papers on time. Best of luck on your journey.

I have contacted Civil Surgeon nearest us and he charges about 175$ each

for me and my son

heard from them and this is what we got...RFE! (Just venting!)

More power to all.

USCIS lost our exam. We got an RFE admitting nothing. We paid $228 for a new one, sent in a totally completed I-693, and are waiting for a response. You are not alone, unfortunately.

Thats what happened to me. I waited over sixt months then made an infopass appt. Two days later Iwas touched and subsequently received the rfe for medical I had to get another done, despite the one in the original brown envelope, and within days of it being returned to uscis i was approved. Suck it up, get it done, its the only way.
